Here's the deal, I need an automatic 4wd transmission for a vehicle we are repowering. It is not a dodge, so there is no computer, I don't want one, I want it all manual controlled or possibly an aftermarket controller that is reliable for daily driver use.

Trans must have overdrive. I'm looking towards the 47 rh, but not sure yet. I have never had faith in automatics, so this is a huge leap of faith for me. The only reason I am doing this is the vehicle is being equipped with a 6BT engine with bone stock pump, no bombing will ever be allowed on this one, too many family and friends borrow it. (this is why I don't want a manual).

Out of the aftermarket builders, which offer the best warranty that is actually worth more than the paper it is written on? Whatever we buy, it will be a no core return purchase, unless I can come up with one at a salvage yard for less then the core price plus the return shipping fees.

I've briefly looked at ATS, but most of their products look like bomber power rated rebuilds, this application will never require that much. (unless it is a guaranteed way to insure I can cound on the thing holding together).

I know alot of member's here are tugging the ever loving crap out of their auto's so I'm hoping to find the rebuilders responsible for keeping them together. I'm posting this topic in the conversions section as well, once I get the project underway.

On Edit: these are the builders I have heard about and read about, but I have no personal references to go with: Gorend, DTT, ATS, Sun Coast If anyone is running their products, I'd appreciate feedback, mileage you have put on their transmission's, any problems so far, and what HP/TQ load are you subjecting them to?... Thanks again

Check out Dave Goerend. www.gbtransmissions.com all Dave does is build trannys. He builds them for all kinds of vehicles. He will hook you up.

Thanks, I called them and left a message. Anyone have experience with them? THe closest rebuilder I have found referred alot on here is in Suncoast, any good bad results with them as well? No one is working at any of the places I called this weekend, looks like I am going to be stuck dealing with emails, Too busy to call during the week.

I've had BAD results with Suncoast. PM me for that info.

I've got a Goerend's transmission. I love it. 100,000mile transmission warranty and Lifetime on the converter. Does anyone else offer a warranty like that?

A story about Dave's warranty... .

I was at a party, a friend thought it would be fun to take is truck through the swamp next to the house. He went in, and burried it up to the doors. Luckily he was close to a road, but we had no straps. I have an 8,000lbs Ramsey Winch on the front of my truck... No problem it's only a Chevy 1500. We hooked up the winch and started pulling. It stalled the winch. Humm... ok... Throw it in Reverse! I don't know how I didn't break a shaft! I had 15lbs of boost built when he finally came out.

We unhooked and I threw the truck in reverse again... . nothing.

I called Dave for advise. We talked about what happened. I told him I'd be fixing it myself because I was the one that did the damage. Free of charge he sent me an ATSG Manual (which he had input on the information). He said after I took the OD section out to give him a call and let him know what parts I needed. Like I said, it was my fault, so I located the clutch that I smoked for $16. 00 on my own. He was more than willing to send me the parts.

When I smoked my TC on my Suncoast... he asked me to do a pressure check. All pressures checked out within spec. What did he tell me to do? Send my transmission to him for a full rebuild.

That is all I will say in a forum about it. There is a post with more detailed info, but I'm not going to repost it. There are guys out there that have had good luck with them. I'm not going to start a war.

That being said... . Guys... . Please keep this to an informational post.

Thank you Josh, this is exactly what I want to hear. As for others who want to tear you apart for posting up on it your experience, I ASKED for personal experiences like this. I really need this to remain information only as I am going to be making this decision most likely within the week.

If someone has Pro's or Con's to offer from their own purchase, use, and experience please post it up. If its going to turn into fight, please have another beer and relax. I am relying on the experiences of TDR forum members like Josh to let me know what to expect. As I mentioned, Automatics are not my choice 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd in a transmission option, this is a one time deal and needs to be right the first time. Period.
