Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Need exhaust advice please

My exhaust pipe has separated from the muffler right at the rear joint and there isn't enough metal to fix it so i'm looking for replacement options.



Questions:



Can i get just pipes (4") from the cat back ( or where the cat used to be :-laf ) no muffler? Where?



Will i get the drone i've been reading about without a muffler?



I've read it'll be just a tad louder but not that much. True?

Running a stock turbo, what would a 5" system get me? Isn't there an issue about where it joins the turbo; size wise?

You can get 4 inch systems that bolt right up to the stock turbo. Summit racing has one for 299. Not sure about the downpipe on 5-inch systems. IMO a 5-inch exhaust is overkill, even though they probably sound real sweet.

299 sounds reasonable but all i really need are the tailpipe and another pipe to replace the muffler, the rest of the system is still in good shape. Would stepping to 4" help with the drone, power or EGT's? We're leaving on a 3 week vacation out west and i'd rather save some money where i can cheap cheap cheap

I have a good stock tail pipe you can have for shipping cost. And a muffler shop can install a small section of 3in to replaice the muffler.

Anybody know the PART # for that summit system that is TURBO back with muffler? Is it the 299 dollar setup?

It's Part# SUM-680001. Turbo to talipipe w/ Muffler. I have no experience with it.



Search the TDR for "Summit Racing Exhaust"



Many guys are happy with it.

Mine broke in the same location. I gave up on an aftermarket cat back replacement system. Ended up putting in the DC oem muffler and pipe, but I also have a stock 12V and annual inspections. Perfect fit, 10 mins and $275 later I was done.

I have a 4" system on mine without a muffler. If you want to drive it so you can see what it sounds like in the cab let me know via a PM. I am about 30 minutes north of you and would drive down. Let me know... ... . Andy

On the way home today i stopped at CarQuest in Hampstead Md and picked up 7' of 4" pipe for $23. I'll cut a chunk off the size of the muffler and put it in its place and see how it sounds. If its not to loud it'll be permanent



I'll let you know in a day or 2...
