After replacing 3rd LP in 50 k I finally relocated it, along with the stock fuel filter, back by the tank yesterday - all went fairly well and is working as anticipated. I was pretty happy with my project and was elated when half way through I noticed soot on the underside of the bed above the bend in the tail pipe. Oo. I've been wanting to install a new exhaust. Later in the day I was under the hood I noticed a fine black wiggly line between #3 & #4 on the exhaust manifold:--)

So today I've been surfing the vendors listed in issue 44 - man, there are enough different systems and prices to make your head spin

I'd like some opinions (without starting a war over who's is best etc. )

EXH MANIFOLD - I think the 3 piece ATS is a definite - why replace with a stock one that's going to crack again later on. Are there other aftermarkets available?

EHX SYSTEM - Looking for quality - one that fits, will last, comes complete with everything needed to install in my driveway, no welding and utilizes stock mounting locations. Could be S/S or aluminum coated. I don't "think" I'm willing to pay extra for shine.

I don't have any performance mods and until I can afford doing the weak link (trans) don't plan on adding any. When I do I'm sure the 4" system will be fine - not looking to produce gobs of torque & HP that would merit a 5" system.

So I appreciate your opinion, suggestions and most of all previous experiences.

Oh I like to do the install this coming weekend, so speed of delivery is somewhat important too.

By the way, with 124k I think I got my $ worth out of the stock exhaust.

Also, the only thing I haul other than myself & family is the occasional home center stuff and camping gear in the covered bed.

Thanks;)

To my knowledge, ATS is the only supplier of aftermarket manifolds. http://www.mrbobsdistributing.com/ats.htm I think prbably has the best price.

Exhaust, there are several systems that have the hangers already welded in place. This being one- http://www.dieselperformanceparts.com/dodgealum1.html

I have the Big Exhaust 5" (mufflerless), 16 gauge system. I was just on their site, and saw they are having a sale. http://shop.ivalueinternet.com/bigexhaust/index.cfm/action/shop_by_subcat/category_id/44.htm It has clamp-type hangers though. One needs to be welded together before installing on the truck. I painted it with aluminum colored high-temp paint for more protection from road salt and the like. So far, no signs of rust. Needs a resonator on the 5" to get rid of the drone. Sounds great other-wise.

Would suggest using band clamps to seal the joints. Will make it much easier to remove or make changes in the future, if needed. Won't smash the joints like other clamps.

Exhaust manifold information I can't help you with but I can give you my experience with my exhaust. They don't use any sand around here in the winter just salt, and my original exhaust only made it to 60,000 or so maybe it was 70,000 and the back of the muffler rotted off dropping the tail pipe down. When I replaced it I bought the Hog Performance system made with 304 stainless, a 6 inch tip and a straight through muffler. The system is pretty heavy duty, when I got it I had to re-shape a couple of pipe ends because they were "slightly" egg shaped from shipping and one hanger was not the right one but they sent me the right one right away, other than that install was very straight forward and easy. The hangers use the factory locations and everything fit well. I originally put the muffler in the loud way but took it out two days ago and turned it around, I know you don't care if it's shiney but every piece of the system is still shiney new after a salty north-east winter and 25-30,000 miles. I couldn't believe how pretty everything still was after getting the slight road grime off of it.

I've heard some on here complain that their 409 stainless system is rusty so for me I like the 304. I think Summit racing carries this system listed as their own for a great price. Also DPP carries some nice systems too. Personally after having put an aluminized system on my 93 and this one on my 01 I definantely like the stainless for the durability but they do cost more.

Manifold & Exhaust System Ordered

Appreciate the replies.

As bmoeller suggested I contacted mrbobsdistributing for the best price on the ATS 3 piece manifold. Presently $399 + $29 shipping.

And,

As DShuart suggested I contacted Rip @ sourceautomotive he offered the best price on the Magnaflow A-Series S/S #15910 w/Lifetime warranty that I could find. Presently $525. 00 = about $55 shipping.

All totaled is $1008. 00 depending on shipping. The only downside is now I have to wait until they arrive to play :{ :( :-laf
