Well I just installed an isspro fuel pressure gauge on my 2002, and as I expected by my no power over 2500 rpms, my factory lift pump with 45,000 miles on it is shot. Anyway I want to replace it with the latest cummins lift pump. What is the latest and greatest part number and what type of price range can I expect to pay. I have both a cummins dealer and a freightliner dealer both within 10 minutes of my home in Croydon Pennsylvania. Are any of the campaign pumps still available?

My powertrain is still under factory warranty til feb 2009, but I don't want the in tank set-up..... Thanks for any help you can give me. . Bill

Yes, no codes. VP44 was replaced under warranty 1,000 miles ago. New fuel filter at the same time. Power was slowly diminishing so I installed the fuel pressure gauge over the weekend. Fuel pressure at VP schrader valve is only 3 pounds at idle. Truck is off the road til this is repaired. Truck only gets used about 1,500 miles a year ... . Bill

Hi, does anyone else know the best place to acquire a cummins lift pump ?

Also anyone know the latest part# and if the campaign pumps are still available ? If they are not what is the average going rate for a new pump ? Not trying to be cheap but I have 2 wonderful kids and one on the way so the wifey has a tight leash on my finances. :( Thank god my birthday is just around the corner or I would have never had an excuse to buy the fuel pressure gauge :D Thanks again ..... Bill

Lift Pump Recommendation

I've got a 99 short box with 82k miles, auto transmission.

Bill I installed a second lift pump from Oregon Fuel Injection (check out their website) after my stock LP went out for the second time. The second lift pump from Oregon Fuel Injection works in tandum with the new stock and will deliver enough fuel to the VP44 if the stock were to break once again. I recommend two lift pumps for our series engine. The pump kit cost $175. 00 to purchase and $75. 00 for professional installation. Best of luck. Rob

This is most likely the cheapest place http://www.hoeslidiesel.com/specials.htm

I would like to add that you really should do the vulcan kit from genos or vulcan himself if your going to stay with the carter lift pump.

The line kit and the pump will bring you up to over $200. 00 There are three other high performance pumps that are listed and talked about on here, I would have to recommend that if money is tight, I would spend very wisely.

If I were you and were staying with a factory design, don't let Dodge sell you on their campaign in-tank lift pump. These are also failing and have complaints of low fuel pressure from the git-go, and the last thing you want is to have to drop the tank/lift the bed to replace a lift pump on the side of the road when on a trip.

Ok the Hoesli diesel website has the latest part# 4943048. I am planning on doing the pump relocation at a later date. Since I just installed the fuel pressure gauge, I want to establish a baseline pressure first. I am planning to drill out the banjo bolts ever so slightly while everything is apart just to help things along for the time being... ... Bill

As to my understanding, is that Cummins is only offering a retro fit in the fuel tank. Bad option, they are failing as said above. Napa or a reputable parts store has better quality aftermarket than your current lift by Cummins or Mopar.

Try asking for Cummins part # 4090046. I purchased 3 pumps for $67. 76 about 2 weeks ago. From SE Power.

Chief; Nice to see you on here as I know you post alot on the tractor board.

I too have purchased the cheaper pump, but I had a friend call to buy some and the part # was supposidly now obsolete. Could you post the # to se so that the member can call to see if he can still get a campaign pump? I know hoelsi diesel will not sell to us at the $64. 00 price, as I have asked them in the past.

I have always asked for Wendy at South East Power Systems. She is sharp, thorough, and gets things shipped out FAST. She got a great price on my exhaust brake and even was able to get me the Cummins Stalk switch. The phone number I called is 1-800-733-6101 and I ask for Wendy in parts. I strongly recommend that you have the part # ready to give to Wendy. They are pretty busy and it really slows them down if they have to find the part # for you. I used the above part # when I spoke to Wendy a few weeks ago and she shipped them out to me the same day with a heads up email to let me know. Tell her Randy HIGHLY recommended her to you.

It is nice to see folks do come an have a look at our tractor forum. We have been doing our best to get the word out there. All are welcome! Come on by and introduce yourself.

Hey Chief USA how are you doing? Give me a call when you can. By the way my first campaigne pump is starting to fail now. It has about 10k on it. Jim

filters are plugging pretty quick right now and that will reduce pressure

Hi Chief, I took you advise and called SE Power. Wendy wasn't in. They transfered me to someone else. He said somebody purchased the last 3 kits last week ... . :{ . Well it was worth a shot anyway. They said they would call me if they get any more in stock ..... Bill

It's not a matter of the pressure dropping. This is what is happening. When idleing I have heard the pump making a differant sound and notice that the pressure is down around 7-8 psi. Once I accelerate down the road it will come back up to the normal 12-13 psi. This is not consistant though. It may not do this again for quite awhile. While cruising I have never notice a pressure drop. The last pump did the same thing as this one. Put this one on without changing the fuel filter and have had no problems until about a week ago.

Jim, I was wondering if you were packing your bags or not. Been keeping busy on that last place I was telling you about. Well that sucks about the pump! Seems like you just put it in not long ago. Makes me wonder what mine is doing now? I need to get a set of gauges.
