I have a 94 that the headgasket is blown on and I would like to replace it with a Marine gasket but I have no idea what one and where to get it I need it in the next day or two. . Please let me know any info. . My truck is a 2 wheel drive that we drag race its just an old junker but sure runs good and it is making like 65 pounds of boost I also have a new set of headstuds to go with it. . Again Thanks 573 426 5199

I'd say go to Cummins Central Power in Springfield MO, closest Cummins place to you, they may carry the . 010" over head gasket. You'll need your engine SN and CPL number (tag on timing cover) or try part number 3283337

If you think you want the . 020” thicker the PN is 3283339

even with head studs, your asking alot of the head gasket to hold 65 psi of boost. i would reccomend having your head decked, and atleast a set of orings installed, if you looking for a really good seal, fire rings is the way to go. they will hold in excess off 80psi, reliably. check the block deck really good, have the head magnafluxed, make sure there is no cracks, i had me head redone, they found a crack, but said that it was really small, and probably would not have a problem, sur enough 2 weeks later, the crack opened up, and started to leak coolant externally. so check, and double check, im sure you only want to do the repair once. good luck

I'm told that if you have the head touched up, be sure they put a fine finish on it.

most good maching shop will do this. i think it is crucial for the head to be flat, even if they are slightly out of spec, i think it is asking for trouble, and i have yet to see a 12V B head come off a engine that was not warped in some way. i wish i could deck the block too, but that is kinda hard to do if it is in the truck..... :-laf

wes

I wouldnt ever bother with checking the block deck unless you seriously think you will pull the engine to have it decked..... When my head gasket went I bought a stock gasket and new head with orings installed from Pure Diesel Power... I didnt even check the block cause i knew I wasnt gonna pull the motor anyway. . So good luck. . Wesley

I just went ahead and ordered a 20 over gasket today for the truck and it should be in thursday, I really dont even think the headgasket was bad but it was getting alot of oil in the radiator do these 12 valve trucks have a oil cooler that could go bad and leak into the water. I mean it was really bad like 3 quarts in the water?? So let me know what you think. Gosh you gotta love this site its great to get all of the help out there. . Thanks TJ Also will the 3rd gen headgasket work on the 12 valve??

The Cummins head gasket p/n changed up to the marine style years ago.
P/N 3283335 std
3283337 . 010

Yes there is an oil cooler behind the oil filter, and yes they can go bad & leak oil into coolant, however I am told this is much less likely to be the culprit compared to the head gasket.

No I don't think the 3rd Gen HG will work on the 12V. Besides it's MLS, very sensitive to quality of prep work otherwise it will fail.

i wish you had said something about oil being in the coolant, because if there was no excessive coolant pressure, or no external coolant leak, then the oil cooler would be the most likely culprit, not the headgasket. make sure when you get it back together, that flush the coolant system good, add plain ol' water and some cascade, it will get all the oily gunk out of the system, then just flush plain water a few times to get any remaining cascade out of the system, and you should be good to go.

wes

Cummins sells a product called Restore which is disigned to clean the cooling system of oil. Really works good.

Maybe but cascade works the best and its cheaper.

I had the oil-cooler go on my cat c-15 on my Kenworth in Homestead ,FL and i drove it all the way home to NY, rebuilt motor at the same time and 4 boxes of cascade later she was squeeky clean!!!! DD

oh i know about restore, but at close to $40 bucks a gallon, i would rather use cascade, not that restore doesen't work, it works really good, especially on scale deposits, but cascade is the cheap alternative that works plenty good for what we need it to do in our trucks.

wes

I really don't want to go through this again, heaven forbid, but if I do, I will use your suggestion of Cascade. Tremendous price difference. Thanks

arm and hammer so clean works good too. Pulled the thermostat run up to temp and then drain and repeat. I used about half a box to clean mine 13 flushes later it was clean. also if you put a teaspoon of dish soap in on one of your flushes helps to get some of the oil residue out of the water jackets.
