Mercedes Benz Oil Burners

My mom is visiting here until Thursday (it' now Tuesday evening). Her 1984 MB 300D driver's side rear window is dead. Unfortunately it is currently wide open. She needs to drive 200 miles home day after tomorrow and we are in middle of nowhere, with lots of downpours coming down lately. I'm waiting for for my registration to go through at Benzworld.com so I can ask for help there, but it could be as long as 24 hours according to their site, until I am accepted. So far I've swapped switches from passenger side to driver's side - NG. Fuse is good, have 12V to the switch. I've found MB does things much differently from USA (pneumatic door locks for example), and without a wiring diagram I'm finding myself lost.

Does anyone have any knowledge of '80s MB wiring or know where I can go online to find out? Parents are retired and MB repair shops cost mucho $$$. And even if we have to resort to an MB shop, nearest one is many miles away. TIA

Can you remove the door panel and manually raise the window? It might be a bad motor or a dead spot in the armature of the motor. I have an '83 and an '85 300d but I haven't had any window problems. My daughter had an '85 also that occasionally needed to have a fuse replaced for some of the windows to operate. Seems the fuses are aluminum and the contacts in the fuse box and copper and this creates corrosion where they make contact and then the window stopped working even though the fuse wasn't blown. Try cleaning the contacts and the fuse ends. This just might help. Good luck. Jim

Thanks for the reply Jim. I'm leaning toward a bad motor, but it looks like a real hassle to get to it and I'm sure it is very expensive, so I'd like to be positive about it before purchasing another. I can pretty much rule out the fuses because all three other windows are working. There are two fuses for the windows: One for the right front/left rear and another for the left front/right rear. Since the right front works, the fuse must not be a problem.

Unfortunately, Benzworld still hasn't processed my registration.

reach down and get it started by hand. . it will pull up by hand far enough to use a wedge at the lower jam to hold it up till it can get repaired. . they come off the channel eassy [might be what caused this issue]. . not a very big issue if memory serves me [I had a 84 300SD for many years]. . also a after market repair facility can do it if they do german cars...

Check the wires between the door and the B-pillar. They tend to crack there... ... if that doesn't work try slamming the door pretty hard a bunch of times in a row with someone holding the window up button. Sometimes the brushes wear out in the motor and they won't work. Off the top of my head I can't think of anything else I've seen on those. I'll check a wiring diagram.

ROYK , about a year ago the window mtr quit working on my 82 300SD I pulled the door panel after pulls and hardware removal and the panel lifts straight up off the door. access to the motor was not bad and was supprisingly easy to replace. and as I recall the motor wasn,t that expensive. as you might be aware with mbz some parts are wholly cow and some are bargains. Hope you can get it fixed good luck.

Josh was right. It was the wires from the B pillar to the door. That was the last thing I would have thought since it was a seldom used rear door. I would expect that problem to show up in the driver's door first. Window is up now and will never be put down again! Thanks for the replies.
