Yes, it’s true. I was on my damn way to get fuel and the truck started to putter. Got over to the slow lane (on interstate) and then everything died. No power, no brakes, no steering. Thank God I made it to the grass on the shoulder. I was one mile from the truck stop when I get gas at :{ I called triple A and had my truck towed to my mechanics. On a side note, the guy that towed my truck just picked up his tow truck last week. Brand New 2006 Ford 6500 flatbed with only 434 miles on it. My outer tires on the rear did not fit on the flatbed. Kind of funny but back to my help.

WHAT DO I DO TO GET HER RUNNING AGAIN (DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE)!!!! I have a 2005 CTD with 15XXX miles. Once I got to the side of the road I tried to start it (dumb on my part) and it didn’t turn over at all.

Put fuel (diesel) in the tank turn key to on position, wait about 10 or 15 seconds & start it up! These newer trucks don't need to be bled, they are self priming. Good luck!

and it didn’t turn over at all

and it didn’t turn over at all

The truck should still crank over even if its out of fuel, something else must be wrong  Are the batteries hot? Headlamps? can you hear the starter click when you crank it?

Dave

fill it up and bump the starter the pump should run for 30 seconds after it has been bumped do that a few times and it should prime it enough to start. if that doesn't work try opening the pet cock valve and bump the starter a few more times to purge some air out. you should be able to hear the pump running. There are more tricks i'm sure. BTW do not use ether on these motors it could ignite going over the air heater and cause major problems.

I'm Sorry, I didnt mean it didnt turn over. It didnt start. It still cranked just didnt start.

Elite1: That is very good news to me. Thank You.

No Worries ;) Follow the instructions from Elite1. The 3rd Gen's are not really hateful when run out of fuel... ..... it will fire right back up. Good Luck.

Dave.

I can't believe you had it towed to a mechanic because you ran out of fuel! Why didn't the tow truck driver offer to take you to the station and get 5 gallons of fuel?

Thanks Guys. I went and got a 5gal gas jug and filled her up. Dumped it in the truck, try starting it, turned the key to run, let sit for 30 secs. and she started right up. I was a happy camper. Thanks everyone.

rbattelle: The tow driver didnt know much about the newer trucks. He asked if I wanted to be towed to get fuel, but I said just tow it to my shop.

BStoecker: I read the manual but I dont recall reading that part. I might need to read the manual maybe one of two more times.

I really wish I could have got a picture of how my truck was hanging off the sides. But we where all loaded up and I couldnt get in my cab. Nevertheless it was funny.

Or bring you 5 gallons ... AAA does !!

Dont know about where you guys are but here AAA takes forever. Wife ran out in Furd with 4 little kids in back, I know a FURD but if Dodge made a 9 passenger I would have bought that for her. DONT THINK SHE'LL RUN OUT OF FUEL AGAIN

Aaa

In California AAA will bring gasoline but they will NOT bring diesel; ask me how I know this!

I've run out of fuel about 5 times in my 97 12V, its never been a problem restatrting her, just add at least 5 gallons and prime the rubber button with a broom stick (i use a hammer held by the head, works great) and she always fires right up.
