Ok,I just put on the new pully from Practical Solutions, and a new Good Year Gatorback belt, about 3 weeks ago,and I noticed some shredding from the belt, not as bad but still shredding never the less, what am I missing here,I put a straight edge on it and it is perfectly lined from what I can tell.

This is really starting to tick me off,its the third belt in just a couple months, getting expensive.

Any advise will be greately appreciated. Thanks:(

Yes from the inside,,still cant tell when just looking at it it isnt bad enough yet,but with it running you can see the shredding.

water pump

A neighbor told me that after his belt shredded, they discovered the water pump was shot. It was unbelievable how bad the pump got before it leaked! Check it out while you're under the hood. The good news - it is easy to replace. Ray

If it were me, I would with the belt off, check all the pulleys on the inside edage with my fingers for any rough spots. Have not followed your previous posts, but the original belt may have "roughed" up a pulley. may need to sand smooth or replace.

Just MHO. good luck

I took the tensioner off and it looks good,it don't seem to have any play in it at all.

All the pullys are smooth no ruff edges at all,I am totally stumped.

I guess I will have to buy the tentioner and see if that is the problem, this is really starting to get old:eek:

Dave,

Sorry to say, but I think you'll find that you need to replace the belt tensioner. I experienced the same problem this past summer on MEGARAM. Replaced belts and the pulley with the heavy duty PS unit but still had a problem with belt shred. Once I replaced the tensioner with a new one (still used the HD PS pulley) the problem went away. I believe the problem occurrs because the spring weakens slightly on the tensioner over time, allowing the belt to walk under load. Before I replaced the tensioner, I could reset a new belt and run the truck with the AC off and the belt would remain on track. As soon as I would start the AC, ie add heavy load, the belt would try to walk. Good luck!
