TRuck stumbles climbing a mountain pass in overdrive. Doing about 70 (closer to 80 when adjusted for 315's) the truck starts to stutter and lose power. Check engine light came on and it all but died. I pulled to the shoulder and bled the fuel filter 'cause that's about the only thing i could think to do. The truck ran ok, then did it again. If I shift to neutral it will rev right back up. finished climbing the pass with the flashers going in second gear and it then ran fine (downhill) the rest of the way home.

I have code p0700, which is a general transmission code. For all I know this could have been coded for a year as I've not checked since about a year ago.

I do hear an occasional clunking noise as the truck downshifts towards a stop. This may or may not be transmission related.

Can a shop scanner glean any more info from the computer or will they just see the same p0700 and say something is wrong with your transmission?

Its got about 115K on it now.

Thanks.

A good scanner will get the deeper codes if any. If the code is valid there should be other DTC's that narrow down the issue.
