Hey Guys,

I am in the middle of changing my ATF on my 2000 Auto. I have drained the fluid and replaced it. Now I want to flush the torque converter. I have generic instructions from MGM which say to " disconnect the return line from the cooler, start the engine, let about four quarts drain back in to a buck, while you are putting in an four new quarts" on how to do this. Which line is the return line (on the auxillary cooler) back to the transmission, and how do I disconnect and reconnect the "quick disconnect" lines(line to hose) ?

IMHO... .

Forget the TC!

Just not worth the mess and agravation (sp?).

Change the filter. . let it drain... replace the filter put the pan on...

(Now would have been a good time to put on a Mag-Hytec. . but I digress. )

Do that every 15,000-20,000 and don't worry about the fluid in the TC.

It will "Exchange" out over the 15,000.

Just keep doing that and Be Happy!!

SSSOOOORRRRYYY. . just noticed you had the Mag-Hytec... Good !!!!

Just drain and refill (no filter) after you've run 1,000 miles... the fluid will have "Exchanged" fully by that point.

Keep up with tthe 15,000 mile fluid change... and change the filter every other time...

Your transmission will thank you for it!!!

i see in your profile that you have a DTT t/c. there is a plug in the t/c to drain it. take the inspection cover off and roll the t/c around till the plug is on the bottom. take the plug out and let er drain.

got mine back in the early spring and it's got one. and i believe that it is stated in the DTT advertizing . it is a small pipe plug(1/4") i think. you can roll the t/c around by hand.

use a long flat screw driver and turn it using the fly wheel teeth(carefully)

you can also watch the plug come around while someone bumps the starter but odds of getting it to stop at the bottom are few

ICEMAN,

I finally got it. Used a paint stick to turn the flywheel. I was surprised at how much ATF came out of the TC. I would say at least 6 qts. Also, it only took 17 qts. to fill the transmission back up. I wonder what the capacity is when you have the DD Mag Hytec pan ? I thought combined with the pan it is 22 qts.

Thanks for everyones help !!

 I thought the capacity of a bone-dry 47RE was around 30 pints or 15 qts? Supposedly a fluid/filter change should require only around 6 pints.

Ray J,

If you check out my signature, you will see that I have the double deep transmission pan which adds 4 quarts. The converter was emptied as well, there was approx. 6 quarts in the torque converter. So based on what you just said, I should have put in 19 quarts (15+4).
