I got a chance to buy a 93 4X4 standard shift cummins with 160 K miles, Body looks great, No rust, Got a fifth wheel. Which i don't need. Owner says everything works. and it runs good... . A. What Is this truck worth on the market? B. What are the troubles associated with that Model?? What Injector Pump is on this Great truck?? P7100??? I ask him if the Rear End and transmission were in good shape and he said they were. I haven't driven it yet. He wants 8000. which sounds high to me... C. What do you think? D. Would appreciate some input from you Mechanics out there?? Thanks Radar... . :confused: :confused:
 
I can tell ya a bit about the injector pump. It is NOT a P-7100. It is a VE. The P-7100 is a 6 piston inline injector pump. The VE is a axial piston distributor pump. The VE has one piston that feeds all 6 cylinders. Nothing is interchangable between these two pumps. If you want more details, let me know. :D

Sounds a little high to me, check the 1st gen classifieds and price compare to like years and options. There was a 93 x cab 5 sp 140K mi for like 5000 obo a ways back. Heck I gave 5250 for a 89 W250 CTD body is rusted real bad but low miles . .

Mr Formula, yes i would like to know if this pump has a real long life / And anything you can tell me about the 93 models/ Isn't that the last year model before the new models came out. Did these units have sterring problems and is there anywhere i can read up on there troubles. Like to thank you two guys for responnding and hope more will responde thanksOo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

:D Welcome to the club... There are many past post... First check the "New to First Gen... " My '93 is a 4X2 reg-cab, Spicer/Dana 70 axle with limited slip diff. Can't beat it. Try to see how well the engine has been cared for. Dates and mileage on filters, color of coolent, any records you can get a hold of including CARFAX. You got to drive the rig! Check warm up time, mine takes up to seven miles to get to operating temp and then opens the thermastat and cycles a couple of times. Get it warmed-up and step on it, at least to 85mph, see if anything falls off. Hit the brakes observe what happens. Listen for noises, what's loose? Try all electrical accesories. Shorts in any electrical? Paint? Glass? I paid $5200. 00, some say it was a good deal. So far so good. I get good fuel mileage, have only changed filters, lubed, and replaced a seal on the left rear axle. I'm still having fun and carry light loads weekly. Take your time check under floors, if it's wet make this a point of bargining, usually an easy fix, windsheld seal, or door rubber, or vent seals... Just my . 02. Patrick.
 
There have been some problems relating to steering.

One is the steering coupler which is mounted at the rear of the steering box and connects the box to the steering shaft.

That coupler gets pretty ugly and sloppy. You can repair it with a kit (good for about a year) or you can use an aftermarket lifetime replacement coupler/shaft.



Secondly the steering box mounting bracket can develope cracks.

You'll need a good strong flashlight and lay under the steering box looking up. If you look at the mounting bracket that attaches the box to the frame you'll see the mount has some radius contours. Check the edges of the mounting plate around the contours and near the bolt holes. Look for signs of cracks, rusting, or spider cracking near the bolt holes.

You can get a new bracket or have one made up.



Generally those are most commonly affected areas in terms of steering issues. The other components are normal wear and tear items like drag links, ball joints etc.

Look up the truck and any options that it has in Kelley Blue Book... kbb.com This will give you an idea of it's value.

Also look in the classifieds in this site. . another place to get an idea of what these trucks are worth.

Radar,

The injector pump can live a long happy life, but you need to be nice to it. Change fuel filter often and run fuel conditioner that provides added lubricity.



Yes, '93 is the last (and best :D) year of our body style. That, however, is only one of many differences between the 1st gens and 2nd gens.

Radar, if the truck really is in great condition, that price may not be too far out of line. At least a starting point for bargaining. :) I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but it seems like a first gen with a 5 speed is getting harder to find, which may increase it's value. Seems like almost every first gen that you see for sale has an auto.



For reference, I paid $9K a couple years ago for my '93 club cab loaded with all the options. It had 106K miles, was in great original condition, and I know the previous owner. Came with two sets of wheels & tires, and some nice accessories. I love the truck, it still makes me :D and this is one purchase I've never regreted.



And yes, this was the last year for the old body style. The ones that have a real Dana 60 front axle with kingpins, 35-spline inner shafts and locking hubs, NP205 transfer case, and leaf springs for that "distinctive" first gen ride quality. ;)

Nada retail shows a high of $10,300 for one like mine with 112,000 miles. I get asked as much as twice a week if its for sale. Told last couple of folks yes. For 15k. actually I would take 12k for it. Not bragging but mines CLEAN. Could'nt replace it without some GOOD money for it. :-{}

First Gen ride quality !!!!



I like mine it rides like a truck whats wrong with that. anyway I know what the newer ones do when you put 2k in the bed. . I'l keep my truck... . Now where is that dentists number I need to get these fillings put back in my head...



BTW if this is a 4x4 and really clean 8k is about right. I paid 6k for a really clean 4x4 regular cab 92 with a stick about 9 months ago and I wasn't the only one looking at it with cash in hand. Remember they get good money for a b motor in good shape on a skid. These truck have a really solid reputation especially down here in Texas where it seems normal to put 20k lbs behind one and drag it down the highway. I have seen 1st gen trucks with as much as 500k mi. on them and they still pull strong and get good mileage. Have the truck checked out before you buy and good luck. You mentioned a 5th wheel, did it also have a gooseneck? I looked at alot of trucks before I bought mine and if it had a gooseneck I took of a 1000$ as that is what it will cost of rebuild the rearend if someone like me was using it...
 
My friend who is a diesel truck mechanic says about the B's: "oh yeah, the ones that aren't properly maintained go 300K, the rest last a long time". :D ;)
