Need help from prodigy owners!

Installed new prodigy in the TV and the codes appeared normal before I hooked up to it. It showed the power indicator dot and the "n. c. " appeared when I pull the manual lever. I rented a small back-hoe over the weekend and when I connected the trailer brakes (had to use a 6 pole to 7 flat adapter) the prodigy showed no signs at all of a trailer being connected. I thought maybe it was the adapter, so I bought a new one, did same thing. I know the prodigy has to be wired right because I bought the specific Dodge harness that has the connectors on each end. It still shows the power indicator dot and when I pull the manual lever it shows n. c. I thought there might be a problem with the trailer itself, but if so, wouldn't there be a code for that on the prodigy instead of it acting like nothing is hooked up? Appreciate the help.

Not a lot of help here but I tried one of those adapters on my last truck and there was a wiring problem. I can't say exactly where the problem is but it is a different wiring code. My guess is that the Prodigy may not be seeing a connection so it acts like it does. Just my 2 cents worth.

you never know how a piece of rental equiptment is going to be wired. The last couple years the newer trucks had a different wiring set up. Not much help, I know.

The prodigy controller is sensitive to any problems with the TOWED vehicle it will give you a code pl if there is any excessive load or poor connection at the trailer connector furthermore it will give you an sh code with your foot off the brake if there is a short detected in the braking system of the towed vehicle or the wiring harness. I can't be sure but I suspect that the rental trailer had problems in the braking system. (i'm not sure that i've ever rented a trailer that had a working wiring harness. ) Try a known good trailer and read the owners manual from your Prodigy for tips on the codes.

When I first installed my prodigy everything was fine. Worked great. Then it started throwing codes. I hunted around and found a rusty wire where the brake wire came into my trailer. Cleaned that up and everything was OK. Great controller IMHO> Good luck JIM

If you look at the instructions for the 6/7 pin/blade adapter there are 2 ways to wire it. When the adapter is opened up usually all wires are soldered, except 2 loosen them and switch positions should get your brakes up & running.

A. ) The Prodigy® has to have a complete circuit on the Blue wire to the brake magnets and then to ground, with the proper resistance. Possible Causes:

· Open on electric brake circuit (Blue wire)

· Power backfeed on Blue wire.

· Open on ground circuit of trailer or truck.

· Trailer has electric over hydraulic brakes.

· Faulty control.

There are two standards for wiring a 6 pole round receptacle,

center pin brakes, and center pin +12v bat.

You can buy both kinds of adapters, or most can be switched as mentioned earlier, I just keep one of each in the truck.

I would try a "Good" trailer so to speak not a rental, who knows how its wired and the condition of the wires, before blaming the box, just my . 02c

I AGREE!!! I'll bet the circuit to the brakes on the rental is open.

I agree with the other post check to make sure that you do not need to switch the wires in the adaptor and then make sure that the rental trailer is in proper working condition.

I have also run in to the 7 to six pin adapter problem. As was said earlier there are two ways they are wired. I borrowed a older horse trailer and the way it was wired my battery lead went to the trailer brake lead, that didn't work so well.
