Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Need help from the 24 Valve Guys

My horse trainer has a 99 Dodge 2500 Cummins and has been acting up on him. The truck is a 2wd with a 5 speed. The trucks check engine light, brake light, and abs lights are on. The truck's tack is not working as well. If the tack is not working it feels like the truck just doesn't have all the power it should, but as soon as the tack starts to work the power level is adequate. It is intermittent and it doesn't seem to have a pattern. I was telling him about the TDR and told him that if anyone could help with his problem it would be you guys.

The tach problem is either the connection to or the crank or cam position sensor, I am not sure exactly what the 99 trucks have but I am sure the truck has a code for one of those sensors. My truck only has the Cam position sensor and it was acting up a couple weeks ago, same symptoms as you describe, fiddled with the wiring for a little bit and the problem is gone. If you go to buy parts cummins is much cheaper than Dodge. As far as the brake and ABS lights I would say it's time to get the codes read. Auto Zone will do it for free.

Your trainer really needs to get the codes read and let us know what they are. The brake and ABS lights could be the rear wheel speed sensor located on the top part of the differential - or a loose/dirty connection on the connector that goes to it. We need the codes to tell.
