We are trying to locate a leak after just having leaks fixed but we can't tell for sure what the part is. Is there anything on-line that give engine diagrams? We have the Haynes manual but it doesn't list the parts name, it's just in one of the pictures.

Thanks for your help

I'm sorry, it's oil leaking. Also, if someone can tell me where this part is located, we had our oil sending unit replaced recently, they accidentally broke it. If we can find that we can make sure it's not leaking also.

Thanks

Where is it leaking when the truck is parked? Front, rear, or middle of the engine? Is it just a little drip or is it a bad leak? We need a little more information. Some leaks are bad news and others are just a minor PITA.

Sorry, I'll try and give more information. I've been on another forum for a couple of years now and forget people on this one don't know our truck and past problems.

Last week we had Piers replace the vacuum pump to gear housing seal, the gear cover gasket, and the front main seal. While replacing these things the oil sending unit was accidentally broke, but they replaced it. Piers always does a great job, and in no way do I want anyone to think that I'm questioning the work, I just am wondering if maybe something needs to be tightened because before this work was done it was a drop or two of oil every other day or so and now it's a spot about 3 or 4 inches each time we move the truck. It was hard to see where anything was leaking due to all the oil that dripped on the engine when the sending unit broke.

Right now it looks like somewhere on the passengers side, just above the cross member. But we're not sure as we haven't been able to completely clean the oil from the engine to be able to tell for sure.

My first question is have you taken care of the KDP problem? A failure could cause a leak that would looked like that. Anyway, you need to get out the degreaser and pressure wash to clean the mess up to get a better handle on the leak location.

Thank you Joe. Yes, the first thing we did was drive it to TST and Mark took care of the KDP for us. We've degreased the engine but it still holds onto the mess under there. Right after returning from Piers we cleaned it with simple green and the pressure washer, but then we had problems with our speedometer not working, and TPS voltage issues again, so we're a little afraid to clean too much. We've fixed those problems, except for the fact that when we replaced the vehicle speed sensor, we can't get the voltage to read correctly.

We are doing our best to clean it up but it looks like we hit Exxon Valdez.

Thanks again

Maybe you should give Piers a chance to glance at it and advise. .

Also black light dye can help locate the leaks in some cases. .

but it has to be mostly clean first...

I use Saran wrap on everything I don't want to get wet. Then I hose it down good with the pressure wash.

If the leak is toward the front on the passenger's side take a close look at the oil cooler behind the oil filter.

I use a large piece of cardboard (like from abox from large appliances) sliced down the corners so you can lay it flat on the garage floor. That way you can get a better idea of exactly where the oil is comming from and also it can be removed and replaced periodicly to save a mess on the garage floor.

Just a suggestion, works for me.

Thanks again for all the help. I'd like for Piers to take a look but he's a good 8 or 9 hour drive north of us.

As soon as we get the chance we'll clean more of the oil off the engine and go from there. We'll also check the things mentioned, sounds easy enough to check. It would just be helpful to have a full diagram of everything on the engine so if we see something we can identify it. The one picture was great, just wish there were lots more with details.

Thanks again for all your help.
