rattling noise coming from front of engine

I have been experiencing some weird things with my truck in the past month. It is an 04. 5 600 with a Quadzilla Chip and AFE Intake. There are 34,000 miles on the truck.

1. I was going to make a left turn and was speeding up a little to make the light. The RPM's began to surge but stayed between 2100-2400RPM's. It was almost like I was revving the motor up. I pulled over safely, turned off the truck, and then started it back up and it hasn't happend since.

2. I was coming down a hill and the PacBrake was engaged and I was about to turn and the truck stalled. There was no shuddering, no nothing. It just shut off. Again, rolled to a safe stop and turned the key and the truck started right up again. Hasn't happened since.

3. This morning as I was headed up the GSP, I noticed a lot of smoke coming from the tailpipe when I accelerated. I was running about 70-75MPH and the RPM's were in between 2000-2200 RPM's. When I accelerated, the truck let out a white smoke with a hint of black. At one point, the cloud was almost all black. Also, when the smoke would come out, the engine appeared to be choking as if there was not enough fuel going in. But, after about 10 miles of seeing the smoke, it stopped and now the truck runs normal.

The only thing I could think of was either bad fuel or an injector sticking in event 3. But, could the lift pump be going and these are just some indications? I have plugged the truck in the past week or so because temps have gone down to 30 at night. Should I take the truck and hook a scanner up to it and see what happens before I take it to the dealer? I have no idea what could be wrong, so thanks to anyone who can help me with this.

I had some weird surging problems with mine. I tried plugging in the bypass plug, but still had the issues. I then unplugged the Quad harness and all was good.

I think they're sensitive when it comes to having the connections plugged in properly. Some have found success by putting some dielectic grease on the connectors to solve their issues.

I have yet to try that, I'm going to send mine in to have them check the harness. I've had the problem happen twice.

I have 2005 Dodge 3500. In second gear and also in drive at 5-10 mph the truck is surging as if it was locking and unlocking. This has not been noticed at higher speeds.

Spirit Dodge cannot diagnose the problem, and said Chysler is working on it . The Chysler representative recommended calling another dealer.

Do yo still have the original fuel filter in it? I'm not ruling out the Quad connections as mentioned (although I have had no problems with mine) but a plugged filter makes weird things happen too!

my 05 was only surging at highway speeds. 70-75 on the 60 hp setting. called quad and shipped back the little box not the harness to have them reflash it. got it back and works fine. very faint if any at 70-75 on the 60hp.

on the 30 & 100hp settings no surge. before it would do it worse on 100hp. also when i had to drive with out the quad and plugged the bypass in there was no surge either. maybe have the box reflashed? not sure though with each o your situations. good luck.

I know nothing about Quad.

On my '01 I had a deap lift pump that gave me one heck of a time trying to diagnose the problem. Get a fuel pressure gauge just to rule it out. It's worth it. My LP is dead now. Not seized so I'm still going, but I've got 0psi going down the road. 3-4psi at idle. They cause some wierd *shshtuff* to happen. If not for my FP gauge I would problably just think I've got some funny winter fuel or something.

This is the second fuel filter in the truck, I have to change it at next oil change...

The truck surged again and I shut it down again and then it didn't start up for approximately 5 minutes. I drove it home and plan on greasing those connections on Sunday and getting my fuel filter changed sometime next week. I hope this helps the problem.

I Want To Thank All Of You That Tried To Help On My 2005 Ram 3500 Surging . It Doesn't Act As It Was Starving For Fuel ,it Act Like The Dork Converter Is Locking And Unlocking And Is Worst At 10 To 15 Miles Hr. And Worst In Second.

Chrysler Rep. Told Me To Go To Another Dealer And Suggested Glendora Dodge And They Were Of No Help At All. so Back To Spirit Dodge And They Promised To Call When Chrysler Found The Answer. Again I Want To Thank All For The Help.
