Hello,

I recently purchased a 2005 2500 4x4 from a dealership. The other day, this red module fell onto the floorboard from behind the cup holder area in the dash. The wires lead into the engine bay and appear to connect to the fuel rail with red, green, and black wires. It also appears to connect to the MAP sensor with 3 black wires and a dark blue wire.

I have no way of contacting the previous owner. Any ideas as to what this is?

Thanks in advance.

I know it's not OEM. I've already driven the truck several thousand miles and I recently towed a 27' 5th wheel from NJ to GA with it. Everything about the way it runs seems normal to me.

Looking at your under hood picture, almost certainly it's a fuel pressure booster.

Thanks. I'll be hooking up some gauges in the near future. I'll disconnect this thing and see if there are any I'll effects. I don't think it's currently doing anything since it appears a component like a switch is missing.

After finding some instructions for the unit, it appears the red LED is lit, indicating it is on power level 3. I'll be totally disconnecting the entire unit since the "bypass" plug isn't with it.

Thanks again for the help!

After removing the module and wiring harness, it is apparent that it was working. I was getting a little soot coming from the exhaust when I really got on it originally. Now I get no soot. There is a noticeable performance decrease, but really only past the 2500 rpm mark. Not a big deal to me since I don't really hot rod the truck around town. Apparently the stage 3 mode it was stuck in isn't good for towing anyway. The last thing I need is risking damage to the transmission since the history of the truck is unknown to me.

Not the worst module to have, fuel and timing with 4 selectable positions. Add some gauges and run it since you already have it.

I would have thought about keeping it but the switch is missing. I really don't want to mess with any tuning devices on this truck at the moment, I don't know much about the history of the truck and I need it to be a reliable for a long time.

I've owned 4.7L Dakotas and 5.9L Magnum Rams in the past. Most recently, my baby was a 2006 Charger Daytona with cam and ported heads. This is my first diesel and I'm still learning about it.

"Soot" is "burned" excess fuel. "Unburned fuel" is white smoke.

I think a lot of people get that confused. I often see soot or black smoke referred to as unburned fuel when searching in forums, not specific to the diesel world.

ckh, welcome to the TDR. We hope you stick around. If you do, please fill out a signature so we know what you have (reference) and possibly where you're from or other interests.
