A member stopped and asked about installing stacks onto his 93. I'd also like a set of shorties on my D250. The question is how!? :confused:

The first generation truck's have a frame cross member that I'll have to cut parts away... ... ... . not (too) big of a problem (I hope?) :confused: Then, Dodge went and welded a cross member support to the underside of the bed, right where the 4" pipe comes up through :{ :{

What the hecK???!!! Do I want to cut away all this material from under the bed and frame cross member???

Bill, Partsman..... anyone..... anyone

On my rig I was able to use 5" pipe from the firewall back. I did have to take out about 2" half moon cut of the frame crossmember but I rewelded a peice of 6" pipe in place of it. The bed should not be a problem at all. I would just use a plasma cutter to solve it. And when you get the pipe to do the job get the short radius bends because it solves alot of clearance isssues. I try to get some pics up but my pc went down this weekend. I have had my pickup in and out of the hay field and the frame crossmember has not shown any weakness.

See what those diesel events do to ya? Stacks everywhere, gotta get em!! You seen mine. You could get away from cutting that fuel tank crossmember by using an elbow of some sort to angle to the rear away from the piece, then another to go back towards your flex pipe or whatever you use. Super simple job IMO.

And as DH said I too have had big loads of brick, dirt in my bed and no problems with a cut or notched fuel tank crossmember.

Or if you or the other guy didn't care about looks, I've seen a stack setup with a huge hole in the bed a foot behind the 'crossover' pipe, then a piece of 3" pipe bent to go around the fuel tank crossmember. . Then instead of attaching to the bottom of the 'crossover' pipe like mine, it was welded to the side facing the tailgate. . with me?

All this of course is if you wanted to have the 5 or 6" box steel as a crossover in the bed. If you wanted a Y then elbows and 5" pipe to stacks, that's different, but easy too.

A pic I know you've seen:

I was not certain if you guys had cut through the bed support. I don't intend to haul any lime stone in MY truck any time soon. I was also thinking in terms resale. Nobody is going to buy a truck wilth parts of the bed support cut away, then again this isn't exactly a truck you'd use to haul lime stone in anymore. Pure race ..... LOL

Ok I don't have stacks but would it be possible to make you holes in the bed forward of the crossmember then immediately from the deck surface, elbow back then upward. . ???

Or, you could hang out at the track and wait for someone like Hoss in the Red Rocket to pump too much nitrous and #2 fuel, put the fire out, then, while trying to start it again have a massive explosion and blow both stacks straight up and away after denting the roof top and making the crowd scatter and duck for cover..... poor Hoss... poor Red Rocket... Amen !!! ;)
