Hi Guys

didnot have time to install a remote kill switch on my 01 before going on a trip to oregon and will be leaving it overnight in a motel parking lot. where is the relay that can be removed so my truck wont start if someone tries to steal it also what does it look like ad are there any better alternatives for securing my Baby(big a$$ baby:D )

Relay Location

DD Pull the cover on the electrical center under the hood. On the right side are a line of four relays if you have the towing pkg. (three if you don't)

The second relay from the engine end is the starter relay. The box layout is also marked on the inside of the cover, with each relay and fuse marked. Removal will prevent the engine from cranking. If you remove fuse #9 in the dash fuse panel, the engine will crank, but will not start.

Have a good trip,

Denny

His original question combined two different relays that have been spoken about in past posts. Obviously the starter relay will prevent the starter from operating but what about the fuel pump relay? Even if you pull that relay, won't the VP44 still try to pull fuel with it's internal pumping mechanism and won't this be enough to keep the engine running? That is assuming the relay is for the lift pump and not disabling the VP44.

Relays And Such

The fuel system relay in the relay box on the drivers fender will disable the VP44. This is how we shut the engine off. If you remove that relay the truck will not start. There is a computer ON the pump for those that haven't spotted it. It isn't going to be able opperate the VP44 without being powered up.

There is not relay for the lift pump that I'm aware of. The lift pump is powered directly out of the ECM.

Instead of wiring a switch to the fuel system relay you might want to consider a switch to interupt power from the fuse box to the ign. switch. Check the fuse box and look for the fuse marked "Engine". I believe this is the source of the power to trigger the fuel system relay in the relay box.
