24V engine - Oil is leaking on the left side in front of the blowby tube. It seems to be coming from the large cable wrap about 8'' from the front of the engine at the low point just above the oil pan. I can't see any leak that is dripping on the cable, it looks like it is coming from inside the cable. I have been looking in my manual and the vacuum pump oil supply line is in that area but I don't think it is inside this cable. I'm pretty sure it's engine oil and it is not from the blowby tube. Any ideas? Thanks

Check the Shaft

Tom,

I recently developed a leak that sounds similar to yours. Check the shaft that drives the power steering pump where it exits the vacuum pump. Mine is leaking a little, as much as I hate the idea it looks like it might be time for a trip to the dealer, I have some other small things they need to take care of.

If you lay on the ground with your face just below the steering box and look up you can get a good look at the shaft.

The Eastwood Company www.eastwoodcompany.com and also NAPA Auto Parts carry a line of UV dyes you can put in the engine,

the power steering pump, the transmission, wherever, and use a UV lightbulb to find the leaks' source (after driving a few miles)

A blacklight bulb from WalMart will do the trick, rather than buy their expensive ($80!!!) light kit...

OIL LEAK

HAD OIL BLOW BACK TO BELHOUSING FROM OIL SUPPLY TO VACUUM PUMP. TIGHTEN FITTING IN PUMP, NO MORE LEAK. THAT'S ON A '99. TBOB

Thanks for the suggestions. I took a close look at the oil line (which was perfectly dry) and the shaft - can't see any leak - there was oil on the lower vacuum pump mounting bolt. I know I'm close to the leak but can't see anything obvious - will keep looking. I'll let you know when I find it. Thanks, Tom
