stuck just on top the drivers door, on the very top of the door edge next to the rear door, Not sure what it was for, maybe the door edge guards that came on the truck. Anyway, I took the piece of tape off today and... ... it left a lot of black duct tape on the paint! Bought this truck yesterday, 9/3 about 80 miles south, havent taken it back to them but the local dealer hasn't been of any help. How can I get the black tape residue off the paint? Some kind of bug/tar/sap remover? Would GREATLY appreciate some help! Truck ain't even 48 hours old! :(

Since thr truck is so new, I would hesitate to use any chemicals on the finish since the paint has not cured yet. Although your alternative is to take it to the selling dealer so that their lot monkey can use a chemical on it. Pretty cruddy deal either way... However, if THEY muck up your paint at least they will be obliged to fix it. Sorry, not much help, but I'm leaning towards taking it back to your dealer whenever you get around to it.

My truck also had the tape on it. It's there to protect that door edge while the factory is building it. I guess sometimes they close that rear door a little faster than the front door. I sprayed a little wd 40 on a rag and it wiped right off.

Put a little WD-40 on the tape residue wait a short time, rub off with a soft cloth. will not hurt the paint ,works for me.

Thanks for the quick reply fellas. Got to take these $400 factory nerf bars back to the dealer on Friday, if I can wait that long I'll get them to do it. Might try the WD40 thing on it when I take off the dealers logo on the tailgate tomorrow. Sure appreciate the help!

Lighter fluid.....

Plain old lighter fluid is great for glue messes. Removing price tags and such. Haven't found too much that it harms either. I would say that your 01 has been around long enough that the paint is probably cured enough to take the mess off without worry.

Just my 2¢ worth,

I've used 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner for years and it works great for removing all kinds of stuff on the paint. The cleaner is safe for all factory finishes, including clear coat. You can buy it at automotive paint shops and even some auto parts stores carry it. I usually buy it in a 16oz can for about $8. 00.

Skin so Soft removes it with out any paint damage, also removes tar. Just put a little on your finger, touch the spot to clean and wipe away.
