I installed a Pioneer cd am-fm unit in the wifes 9812v today using installation kits from WalMart. Soldered all the connections between the conversion kit and the wires on the cd unit. Plugged things together and now it only has rear speakers.

I'm confidant all the wiring is connected correctly (but it ain't working so what do I know), I just matched color to color. The factory radio was the standard cassette am-fm unit.

Anyone have any suggestions on some bonehead mistake I may have made?

I would think the odds are against it, but I'm thinking the new unit is bad.

The blue remote turn on has to be hooked up. There are "amps" on each speaker and the blue wire from your pioneer powers back to them. I am sorry I can't remember which wire it is but that is your trouble. Hope that helps!

I also had this trouble and this wire is probably your problem, but my memory is failing me on the specifics. Do a search including this "remote" wire and something should turn up for you.

If the connector specs I am looking at are correct, the Power antenna/Amp

wire is white. I am also going to install my Pioneer soon. Hope this helps.

Edit: white wire is on the Dodge connector.

Not rocking yet, deer hunted today, I'll pull the unit back out in a couple of days and see what I can figure out.

I'll post the results JC.

I strongly suspect you guys are right, I didn't hook the blue wire up, figured since I didn't have a remote, no need to worry about it.

OEM vs Aftermarket

When I bought my '94, I decided to put in a new Sony cd instead of buying the $600 OEM cd. I wound up spending way more than that to get the sound back to an acceptable quality in the truck. (Mine had the Infinity cassette. ) The OEM paper coned speakers were (are?) junk, plain and simple. The Sony head unit overpowered the amps and ruined them and their speakers very quickly (not by blasting either :-{} ). I wound up buying 4 new poly coned speakers and a "real" 4-channel amp just to get the sound quality back to stock.

To sum up my lesson, I should have bought the factory CD and kept it OEM. :{

We now have tunes in the front. The blue wire had to connect to the blue/white wire in the Wally world wiring kit. On the Pioneer unit, the blue wire is taged as power remote and has a female spade connector, the blue/white on the wiring kit is taged power antenna.

When I touched the two together I heard a relay clicking sound in the dash and was a little concerned, but in a couple of seconds the front speakers kicked in.

Thanks for the suggestions.
