Need help on transfer case

This weekend my transfer case on my '93 started making noise. #@$%! It will not shift from 2 hi to 4 hi while the truck is in motion. :{ when stopped it will go into 4 hi and 4 lo. The noise seems like it is getting louder every time I drive it. I checked all fluid levels, greased all u-joints, every thing looked good. I need to get this solved because I am supposed to go hunting this weekend. By the way, what is the bolt that is to the rear of the PTO cover on the driver side? What does it do? I removed it because I thought it was the transmission fill hole!!! Thanks everybody!

well to start with you should only beable to shift it if trans is in Netural and your stopped check linkage maybe it's out of adjustment

2wd to 4wd you should be able to shift in motion as long as the hubs are locked and the wheels are moving the same speed.

I was told Alway's stop the truck or it will grind gear's when you try to shift it

Mine has substantial slop in the front driveline output shaft. Is this normal?
