I have a 1994 CTD so I know the engine and the truck but I have a few questions that I hope you guys/gals could answer about when i do order the new one.

I plan on ordering 2004 CTD 4x4 6spd H. O. longbed quad-cab single rear wheel.

#1- when I do order truck from dealer how do I track it?

#2- I remember hearing in hear somewhere that there is a reflash(s) that allow the cruise to be used to bump up the idle? also heard about one flash for cold weather climates that helps the engine warm up faster by shutting down half the cylinders?

#3- What is going to be more durable? Floor shifted t-case or the flimsy/lamo twist knob on the dash?

#4- does anyone know the gear ratios for the 48re?

#5- does anyone know the gear ratios for the 6spd manual?

I woulod much appriciate any help that you guys/gals could lend me.

Thank you

Chris

Heres my . 02's worth, I hope it helps you.

1. call 1-800-992-1997 and follow the prompts. To save time if you have a vin# the first five questions should be answered 1-2-5-2-1.

2. The 03/04 trucks are factory equipped to go to a high idle setting in cold weather.

3. Either T-case is good but it appears you have already decided which one you like better. ( if you get a Laramie the electric is your only option).

4. No clue

5. same as 4

I just ordered the same as you described. I haven't got the VIN yet, so can't help with 1.

2. I have heard that it is a special flash to have the engine start and run on 3 cyl. , but it is said to be more hassle than it's worth. Word is the re-flash causes more trouble than it fixes. I opted out of that one.

3. The T-case is the same in both models, just the method of engaging them is the difference, so the gears and durability is the same, except for the elec. actuator to move the lever into gear. I opted out of that flimsy/lamo one too.

4&5, no idea.

Good luck with your decisions. See you around the boards.

Never heard of the cruise idle trick, that would be sweet.

Here is a link to the transmission specs. The Auto is a 48RE, but it has the same ratios as the 47RE it replaced. The 6 speed is the NV 5600. Take not of the final ratios when selecting the rear end. The Auto is 7% higher than the 6 speed. The 4. 10 is only a 9% difference from the 3. 73. I would look strongly at the 4. 10 with the auto.
