My truck started to run erratic a couple of days ago. I first noticed it @ idle, the tach would drop 50-75rpm them jump up 50-75rpm. At first it was only @ idle but now its @ all rpm's. Fuel pressure is 20-22 @ idle and 15-16 WOT. Any ideas? Thanks!

the tack in my truck will fluctuate alot. took it to the dealer and they say they all do it. it sounds like you have good fuel pressure. might be a sensor or something though. mine does it all the time so it might just be the truck. does the engine change speed or just the tack.

Is it just the tach being erratic or is the motor actually bouncing arround? If it is just the tach, symptomatic of the CPS. Crank Position Sensor, under the starter motor.

Part #

Mopar : 05015488AA $67

Cummins: 4002066 $37

Thanks!

Yes, the motor fluctuates but you can only hear it at idle. Just called Cummins and got a crank sensor. Will try that first.

Can you back that fuel pressure down to 15 -16 and try it? I have read the VP44 doesn't like pressure over 16-20.

This is after the fact, I know, but I had a engine stumble with my CPS failure. Lost the tach, and water temp gauge when the tach was not working.

Glad you got yours fixed.
