Need help from FL-60 owners

The wiring instructions say to run the Power Vision supplied wires and cable through the rubber boot that connects the door to the cab and into the cab. My truck has two connectors at the cab end of the boot. There is no way to run a cable beside or through these connectors.

I think I will discard the Power Vision wiring and splice into the OEM wiring, using the mirror heater wires to carry the in/out signal.

Has anyone done this? Comments?

Thanks for any advice. --Glen

Glen,
Use the Power Vision wiring harness, other wise the mirrors may not work properly. That will the the hardest part of the install. Took me about a while. Figure about 3 to 4 beers time. Silicon grease on the harness will help to squeeze it thru, but still not easy. Guess what?? I had to do it twice!! I got the wrong harness the first time and mirrors would not move in the right direction. You might want to just lay the mirrors and harness on the seats of your truck and make sure they work properly. If they do, then you can go ahead with the difficult install. No wonder they recommend having a "professional" do it. Also the template they have for drilling holes is slightly off and I had to elongate a couple of the holes to get the bolt thru.

GLEN--Install per directions! The two wiring systems won't integrate. I know it's a ***** to do the job, but many have done it, including myself. Just take your time, and go step by step. The door connectors disconnect in the door open position, use your service manual for reference, or borrow one. Use slickum on the connectors, and pull gently so you don't tear them up. You need to be cold sober, (well, maybe one beer to calm your nerves), and proceed diligently.

Thanks guys. I just needed someone to tell me that it is possible!

What I did was pill the pins from the connector--this reduces the blob that must be pulled to about a third--and followed instructions. After that it was almost easy. (insert laugh here) The connector is easy to disassemble and assemble if you have the right tools.

Oh yes, I connected everything and tested it before I started; good suggestion.

Thanks again --Glen

I know what you are talking about. I also removed the pins then just reconnected them after I got the wires up there. It is a very tight fit.

Removing the pins is an excellent idea. That way you don't have to try and get that hard plastic square thru the rubber hose between the doors. I have a pin tool now, but did not have one when I did my install. If I ever install PV mirrors or similar again, I'll be sure to pull the pins out.

Great suggestion.

Hi guys!
A quick question about the PV mirrors, do they vibrate when fully extended(like my OEM mirrors do!)? Is everyone happy with the mirrors, where did you get 'em?
Thanks for any input,
Paul

I took mine for a test ride to check for vibration. I like them.

Unextended: No vibration detectable

Extended: There is a small amount of vibration. Not enough to obscure objects in the mirror. The view is quite good.

Glen: The OEM plugs behind the kick pannels pop out easily (sober) anr running the PV plugs is easier. Use a cut up coat hanger to pull through rubber tube, moving the tube from the outside to help it pass through.

Got to agree, they were the hardest to install add-on I've done, but worth their weight when used.

There is no vibration on the drivers side, in or out, and a very slight vibe on the pass side when out. Best electric mirrors I've owned. Wish mine had heat! Oh well---

According to Powervision, the next generation Powervision (HEATED) mirrors should be out sometime in May. I have been waiting for these since my Ram was still on order in the Spring of '98. #ad
