Well. I finally let the dealer take my truck at 69,000 miles and replace the leaking oil pan gasket and do the TSB to fix the leak. I can tell by the scratches that they took it out from the back. I assume they lifted the front of the engine to do this. Seems to have fixed the leak for now. Only done about 1. 000 miles ago. Problem is they created a new noise I can not locate and correct. It sounds like a mild slapping noise in the vicinity of the turbo. I have checked every single thing I can put my hands on. Everything is tight and secure. The first time I really knew I heard something I thought a dog ran to the curb and barked at me. Not a sound easy to explain. Almost sounds like the pass side inner plastic fender well is loose and mildly slapping. But it isn't. It can barely be heard and does not follow any patterns. Sometimes I hear it at WOT, sometimes setting at a stop sign idling. I can't figure it out. Any suggestions welcomed.

Also wish to mention that they scarred my drive shaft seal and now it is leaking. More work to do now. I also had them quote on repairing my vacuum pump leak. They wanted $1300 to replace or $260 to rebuild. I told them I would do it myslef.

Whew! This thing is starting to fall apart too soon. At this rate, the oil leaks will have eaten my whole asphalt drive by the time I hit 400,000 miles, which was my justification to my wife to buy this truck.

Any help you all can offer would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

David

flapping noise

IF THEY RAISED THE FRONT OF YOUR ENGINE, MIGHT CHECK THE FAN SCHROUD,,, THEY WOULD HAVE HAD TO LOOSEN IT OR RAISE IT TO LET FAN CLEAR IT... ... $. 02

There's an inner foam sound deadening baffle between the fender sheetmetal and inner sheetmetal back near the front of the door - could that be loose and flapping while in motion?

just a guess...

If the airbox was removed or loosened, could it be the plastic sleeve that's supposed to draw air into the airbox from between the inner and outer fenders that leads to the airbox? I've heard others say that theirs wasn't installed correctly from the factory (nor was mine) and they get some wierd noises from it as the intake air comes by and vibrates or bumps it around. Installing it correctly stopped the noise.

From the best I remember (if you check this), the sleeve has a flange that stays to the inside of the airbox, the sleeve length is pushed through the airbox hole and squeezed into the fender hole. Then pushed as far into the fender as it will go or until the flange of the sleeve is against the inside of the airbox. From where you said the sound came from, this could be a possibility.

Not sure what type of noise it is:confused: but, you might try using a mechanic's stethescope to try and locate it. I've always found this tool very useful. -frank
