Need Help w/ Heater Grid

The Wait to Start light in this truck has never come on since new and I just thought that maybe DC had changed something so that it didn't light up at every start like my past trucks. But now that we have had some cool morning (50 degrees) I have noticed that it still does not come on. I checked it this morning and sure enough there is no voltage going to the grid when the key is turned on. I have power to the relay but none after. I have no present codes and I don't see a fuse marked for the grid in the fuse panel so where should I check next?

My wait to start didnt light up, until this morning when it was a tad below 40. Never came on with all on the 50 degree days we had here

Well then maybe I don't have the problem that I thought I did but the manual says that it will turn on at or below 66 degrees. Anyone else have similar occurrences??

Yeah I seen that in the manaul also and it had me scratching my head until the light wsa on this morning. It warmed up to the lw 50's and when I took a ride this aftenoon, no wait to start light

There is a short blurb in the present or previous TDR outlining operational conditions of the heater grid. Nominally activated at 59 degrees F, but this has not been consistent in my experience. Wait until temps drop into the low 40s overnight, or else have circuit checked by dealer if you're really concerned. I have not had an issue with low-temp starts without waiting for light to come on.

The light in my truck has never come on either and the lows around here are usually in the 50's or high 40's...

If you really want to see that darn light come on, move to Alaska. Mine came on this morning... ... ... ... ..... it was 8 degrees.

Had the same problem, was 54 one morning and no light at all. Pulled out the manual and saw the 66 degree verbiage. Had to look up what the idiot light looked like anyway since this is my first diesel.

Maybe 54 wasn't cold enough, but in a way I can't wait to see that darn light for the first time Love my diesel, just can't get enough of it.

If your grid continues not to work as it gets colder... . you most likely are not getting a ground at the grid..... get the revised gaskets from the dealer as the new gaskets grip the studs better ... . the gasket is metallic and is the ground for the heater grid... . make sure studs are clean..... If I remember correctly there is a gasket on each side of the grid plate. Fixed the problem for me! Hope this helps!
