Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Hard Starting When Warm?

I just installed my comp,40, and Bully Dog II's. WAAAAAAAY to much smoke. I know that I should expect smoke under hard acceleration but I can't drive at all in town even on 1X1. I have heard that the bully dogs smoke a little more that others but this won't work for me. I have a white sport and just in the two hours I drove last night from getting my transmission done literally the whole passenger side from the back tire back and most of the tailgate was almost jet black. I see many other sigs that have the same mods and live in the same type of humidity and I know there is no way that they are putting up with the same thing. I also was VERY disapointed with the PDR 40. It takes forever to make any boost around town and is performing nothing like the other members describe theirs. I am also getting like <25 psi tops also. I know this is low but I don't know if this is a boost leak or what. I would appriciate any help what-so-ever on both of these issues. Also, PLEASE do not start a war here but if any of you are running 80hp DD's or EDM's it would help if you could give me a little input on the smoke that they make. Sorry this is so long.

Thanks,

Adam White

I have the same year truck with an auto, 410s, and PDR HX40 running DDIIs. I'm slighly higher than sea level and with my fueling box off or on it's lowest setting it smokes quite a bit when the temp is 60 degrees and above. The lag of the 40 has been disappointing to say the least. Pulling out into the next lane at 30-45 mph requires an empty lane... the spool up is so slow it's plain old dangerous. The remedy that has been tossed around is (besides more $$$) getting a cam to help with the low end, replacing the head with an aftermarket one (smokecontrol), and getting a better torque converter.

Keep us posted as to your next move.

80 horse injectors are a little small to spool a PDR40 on an automatic. You gotta push fuel to spool it and if you try to do that with the box it will smoke alot. I can drive all day long at 6000' with my box off without too much smoke and on 1x1 the spool is acceptable and it barely smokes at all. Are you getting 25psi tops with the box on? I can hit 30 with just injectors 40 is tops with the wastegate. Check all the clamps for boost leaks. Probably the best cure would be a cam but you could also build at HX35 with a HX40 compressor side to help the spool but still push more air than a 35. From what I've seen EDMs and DD's are cleaner than BD's. At lower elevations my mach 3's smoke less than my old BD2's.

I'm sorry Your having smoke problems (although some would say it's a plus). I have the same set up as you except my injectors are DDII's. I just recently upgraded to the drag version and now have to run my box on 1 X 5 to keep smoke down. At this setting I have no problem with smoke except on Hard acceleration at low boost. When I step on the pedal at almost any speed it accelerates very well even before boost gets up. I currently have my wastegate set at 40lbs but it was recommended by Piers that 38# was the most efficient.

I would truly recommend calling Piers and getting their input, you will probably come away with some answers.

Oh by the way I live in Houston, the high humidity capitol.
