Yesterday I changed the fuel filter. Now the WIF light won't go off. Before I changed the old filter out every thing was just fine, no light.

I then thought the old sensor might be the problem so I removed the filter and replaced the the old sensor with a new one that I've had for those just in case times, like breaking the sensor or it just going bad.

Refilled filter with fresh fuel, installed filter, hooked up the sensor and the light is still on.

Tomorrow I'm changing the filter out again, reinstalling the old sensor and refilling with fresh fuel. Hope it works this time.

Anybody have any idea what went wrong????????? Possible shot some where or what.

Thanks in advance.

I think the very first thing to look at, if you haven't already done so, is the plug in connector for the WIF sensor.

Maker sure it is in good shape.

Let us know how you make out here...

Definitely check the plug. For a while my WIF light had a mind of its own. I unplugged it, cleaned it with some contact cleaner and my pocket knife, and put it back together with some dielectric grease and all is well.

Update on WIF light.......

Stopped on the way to work and got another gallon of fuel and added some Standyne to it. Removed filter that I installed Sunday and installed a new fuel filter and the old WIF sensor, purged system and hooked up connector, there is no light now.

The only thing that I can say is that the first gallon of fuel I got Sunday was old or bad from a station that I don't usually visit but the was no water in the fuel. The filter I took out had a large coil spring in the cavity where the sensor installs and possibly the two prong were touching the spring.

To tell you the truth I've never looked in the bottom of these filters before this mourning. Is there suppose to be a spring in the bottom or what? I think it was the spring in the filter that was causing the problem.

The connectors were in good shape so no problem there. I even hooked up the new sensor and plugged it in and dipped the two prongs in fresh diesel and no light and then I tried diesel with water in it and sure enough the light went off so I'm pretty sure that the filter was at fault. It was a fleetguard.

Thanks for the replies.

I've never seen a spring in any filter I've ever put in.

Next time, try some WD40/ PBlaster, et al, in the connection for the WIF sensor.
