Hi fellas I need info on a 1996 dodge 2 wheel drive diesel 2500. The abs light is intermentent on-off any ideas. I also could use a 1996 maint manual if you know where I could get one pm me or send to -- email address removed --.

Would worn front brake pads cause the abs light to stay on?

When mine came on a few years ago it was caused by the sensor on the differential. It was real simple to replace but if you can find it someplace other than at the dealer, do it! I was charged $76 for it. Others on this forum have paid half that amount.

I think if you had 4 wheel anti-lock braking system that if the front pads were worn it would turn on the light but mite do it for the RWAL system.

Manuals, Geno's Garage has them or you can get from Dodge dealer.

Follow Gene Arnold's suggestion. It is called a rear wheel speed sensor and the connector does seem to come loose.

Usually if the ABS light comes on so does the brake warning light.

Worn brake pads should not cause the ABS light to turn on. Before I started using the "parts dart board" to diagnose this, I'd take it to someone with a Scanner and have them pull the trouble codes. If there's a light, there's a code stored. That'll get you pointed in the right direction.
