Just bought the new 6859R Transmission gauge.

My problem is, the head of the temp sensor is too long to go into the access port on the transmission. It seems to bottom out with only 2 threads in. It has the large flat head sensor instead of a tapered one in the kit.

I used the middle port shown in this diagram:

How do I install? :{

Thanks.

I have the new Isspro gauges also. I tried all the ports and none of them worked. My only options were to put a 1/8 plug in the transmission pan or to order the transmission fluid cooler line from Mass Diesel. I went with the cooler line for $80. 00. The install wasn't very difficult. The only thing I wonder about is my readings seem a little lower than what others report. I'm not sure the probe is getting much fluid on it.

I have heard that as well about the trans line.

Well, I've been reading LOTS of old threads.

Seems there maybe a port at the rear of the trans that may work?

Will the B&M transmission drain plug work for you? Just installed one on saturday, and the temp probe with my new Isspro guages fit right into it. Geno's recommended this.

Also, where is the "access port" on the transmission?

I bought my Isso's from a small diesel shop in St Louis. The owner gave me a 1/4 female to 1/8 male adaptor (dont quote me on the exact size, it worked) Told me which port to use, screw the adaptor into the test port, then the sender into that (keeps it from bottoming out) He also told me about extending the wires for that transmission gauge. You need three feet, and extend the wires to the box, not the ones on the sender itself, otherwise if you need a new sender for some reason, you gots to be making it 3 feet longer also. My gauges work great, 130 degrees once warmed up, sitting in traffic it gets a touch warmer like 140-145. I havent pulled anything with it yet so I dunno what temps I will see while towing. Hope this helps.

i used som fittings from a industrial hose place and drilled the fittingd in the front part of the trans pan behind bell housing best place so did not hit valve body. after warms up about 130deg and sitting in traffic about 140 to 145deg

I said above my readings were lower, but they are the same as the ones listed on this post - 130 to 145. On the interstate around 70 mph the needle just sits on the 100 mark.

I am not sure which one I have, but its the one from Genos... It measures from 140°-320°... I am trying to find someone who has one that is 100°-280°. I think this one is for autos, and autos run a little warmer than standards. . I had no problems putting the probe into the fast cooler, but it makes me wonder, since it's out there, and not inside the main part of the transmission, ya know??

Finally got everything installed. Isspro had to replace a bad gauge.

I have the sensor in the middle port (such as the link above). At idle and slow cruising around town, it reaches 155*. Seems a little high compared to numbers above.

I know the trans fluid needs changing (30,000) could that explain the high temps?

I will try on the highway tomorrow.

Mine's in center port - gauge doesn't read. But I don't care.

Why not?

I had to have Isspro replace mine under warranty. It wouldn't work either.

Bought the Mass Diesel line. The port has too much ambient temp sensitivity, do to the trans case. On a hot day, I just turn the key on and it read 150*.

What was leaking?

Not sure.

Was one of the upper fittings. It only leaked when I was driving and the trans line was heated and had extra pressure.

After I took them apart and re-seated/sealed them, it was fine.

But... ... after all this I also noticed a small drip from the upper fitting on the little black box. (like a little radiator behind the engine)

Never touched that line, but had noticed a little bit of black build up on it before. Must have been leaking from the factory.

Took it off (thru the hood) and re/seated/sealed it also.

So far three short trips and all is dry. :)
