I just had the VP on my '99 replaced and noticed that one of the injector lines is slightly leaking ( actually more of a seepage ) at the fitting on the head. I don't want to just muscle it tighter out of fear that I will damage it. Any suggestions?? Should I just loosen it and retorque it again? What is the recommended torque for this fitting? I don't want to go back to the thieves that repaired it for something so minor.

Get yourself a 19mm crows foot and a torque wrench. Set it to 32 ft/lns and see if you can turn the bolt without "clicking" the wrench. You can up to 40-45 ft/lbs to get it to stop leaking.

The leak happens when you do injectors more then 3-4 times. The connector tube does not seal against the injector line. Especially when you over tighten time after time.

There is always one in the bunch...

Yes... . I tried tightening it first before I posted.

Well, then the only other option you has is to replace that line with a new connector tube. (Been there done that)

Which injector is it???

It's the first one in the front of the engine. Any special reason?

No, not really. It will be a little easier to change.

Just unbolt the blue vibration isolators and pull that line off the vp and head.

You can first just un bolt the line from the head and check to see if there is a ridge/groove in the conical head of the injector line. (the part that seals against the connector tube. If there is a pretty good ridge in there you will have to replace that line and the connector tube.

Good luck

back the line nut all the way off,, make sure everything is spotless clean, then try re-torquing it. If you need a new tube, I found Piers to be the cheapest to buy them. If you need a new line, they are around $100 each... can't believe it is the line though.

 Well I didnt know that ! You asked in origonal post : SHOULD I LOOSEN AND RETOURQUE?

Sheeze!!

Just playing with ya... no harm intended. :D :-laf

Actually, I only cracked the wrench a tad tighter than it was. I wanted tio be gentle. I will loosen and retorque per the previous post. Thanks for the advice all.

Try this first before you go thru a lot of work. . Loosen the blue injector line bracket that holds the line first. Then loosen the injector line on the head then tighten it back up. Then after you have it tightened up tighten the blue injector line holder.

What could have happened is that then they connected the injector lines back up they tightened the brakets that hold the lines before they tightened the nut to the head. I have seen it hold the line so tight that you cant get that line to seal up...

 Yes I would try that also- loosen the holders and then retighten line could be something like that you take them off in 2 groups of 3 lines each- maybe the ace wrench working on it overlooked that. makes sense. :D

No offense taken! We all need bust a couple of chops now and then :-laf :-laf

I'll try it. Last night I put a torque wrench on it and it must be tightened down more than 45 ftlbs. Torque spec on them is 28-30 ftlbs. I just hope that the tube isn't wrecked. 'm afraid if I loosen the fitting and retighten, it will leak even more now since it was overtightened originally. :{

 If its leaking fuel out when running you can bet its allowing air to leak in when not running- not good- so better get it checked out soon before it leads to any starting problems ect.
