I'm working on putting together kits for the ladder bars I have on my truck - https://www.turbodieselregister.com/ubb//Forum3/HTML/002554.html . I need to figure out if they are going to work on other model trucks - mines a QC LB 4x4. I could use some help from you guys getting measurements off of your trucks so I can see if they'll work on the different models and whether I need to have different length bars made up. I need to get these measurements from these trucks:

Regular cab long bed 4x4
Regular cab long bed 2x4
Club or Quad cab short bed 4x4
Club or Quad Cab short bed 2x4
Club or Quad Cab long bed 2x4

I took all my measurements on the driver's side and that's what those pictures are from - the front of the truck is to the left side of the pictures. Here are the measurements I need and what my measurements were. You can do it with a tape measure, shouldn't take more than about 5 minutes.

1) Hook the end of the tape measure on the bolt sticking on the outside of the rear shackle (it sticks out about an inch) and measure to the middle of the front spring perch bolt - 60 inches

2) From the underside sheet metal of the bed straight down to the top of the axle just outside of the spring perch - 18 1/2 inches

3) From the flat part at the upper front of the front spring perch (#1) to the front edge of the rear front bed mount (#2) - 6 1/2 inches

4) From the flat part at the upper front of the front spring perch (#1) to the rear edge of the forward front bed mount (#3) - 18 inches

5) Then try to see if there would be room to mount the front bar mount in the area 8 inches to 15 inches forward of the front spring perch (#1) - if not if there is a spot 7 inches wide that is clear in front of the spring perch and where that spot is (relative to #1 for reference).

I'm not even sure if the short bed trucks have two bed mounts in front of the rear tire or not.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you guys can give!

Steve. .
just got home. . what about duals. . any issues that might need info on ? also disc brakes ? #ad
#ad
. . if so send me a E-mail and tomorrow when I'm out plowing I'll get them... been in the plow for 5 hrs so far today. . [left work early so I wouldn't have to plow tonight when the snow is to deep to get caught up]

From what I've seen on the 3500's there shouldn't be any problem there. I doubt there would be with the disc brakes either (haven't ever seen one). If you have a digital camera and can take a picture and email it to me from the rear of the truck at the area on the top of the axle between the spring perch and the wheel I could tell.

Steve:
I have a reg. cab/2wd that I would be glad to measure off. Every Cummins reg cab I've ever seen has a long bed.
Should readings be posted on the forum so that others will "double check" for accuracy or would you prefer they be e-mailed directly to you? Please advise and TIA.

Here would be great so I can print them off in one big list and in one place, plus the advantage of double checking as you said - thanks. As reports come in I'll take the configuration off of my list above.

I'm driving a QC LB myself so my measurements wouldn't help you, But I want one of your kits!!
Do you have any idea when a kit may be available or the price?
Of course I'm assuming (I wince everytime I use that word) the kits will be similer to the custom traction bars on your truck?

They should be available within a month (hopefully less), still working on pricing. The kits will be exactly the same as what I have on my truck.

Steve, I have a QC SB 4x4. I took all of my measurements in the same manner you did.
1) 60 in
2) 18. 5
3) 6. 5
4) There is no forward bed mount. There are 11. 25 inches from the front of the spring perch to the rear edge of the rear cab mount. The space between the front edge of the forward bed mount and the rear edge of the cab mount is approx 5 inches. I know there is a discrepancy in my measurements of . 25 inches. I can get better measurements if the picture I attach does not show what you need. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1551860&a=11772234&p=41958905

edit: well, I didn't quite figure out how to attach it, but the link works. Maybe next time.

Steve, I have a 99 QC SB 4x4.
1)60"
2)19"
3)6. 5"
The space between the front bed mount and the rear cab mount is 4"x7". Andy posted a link to a picture that shows this opening very well.

Thanks for the report Andy (and the pic - it helped a lot). It looks like on the shortbed I'm going to have to come up with a different front mount (the current one is 7 inches wide and it looks like there's only 5 inches there in the short beds). I could use a picture just like what you did but zoomed into the area between the mounts with a ruler held just below it. Also, a verification of the distance from the spring perch to the front of the bed mount. If it's possible, it would also help to have a picture of a narrow ruler (as narrow as you have so I can see the angle of the mount) held up against that body mount near the top of it shot from the rear. It might be possible to space the bracket out from the frame to clear the two mounts. If anyone can take that picture and needs more explanation of what I need email me at stevest@voyager.net with your phone number or I can give you mine for further details. Thanks in advance!

UPDATE - I have the pictures I need from the SB trucks (thanks Howard).

Here ya go Steve - 2001 Reg cab

#1 60"
#2 20"
#3 6. 5"
#4 18. 25"
#5 Maybe - There is room for the bar mount but the parking brake cable or front spring eye bolt might get in the way of the bar itself. I'm assuming these things mount to the axle just outside the leaf springs?

Good news Dane - looks like the RC LB and the QC/CC LB are the same behind the cab! Now I just need 2wd numbers - we're getting there - thanks for all the help guys!

Steve,

My 97 Reg Cab LB 4x4 measures the same as your truck. I am really looking forward to getting a set. Is it very difficult to get the driver's side mount on due to the fuel tank and lines?

I'm glad to see you're gonna make these things!! I need to change the 5" lift blocks for a set of 2. 5" so the truck will fit under my 5th wheel, do you think your bars will still work?

------------------
2001 Quad Cab Dually, ETH, SLT Plus, 275 injectors, Banks Power Pack.

They'll work fine Powder - there is room to move the mount up and down at the frame to adjust for the height of the rear axle, and you can flip the mount upside down which moves it approximately 3 inches upwards as well.

The short bed trucks are going to need a totally different length bar and a different mount at the front of the bed (it's MUCH tighter on the short-bed trucks). I need to find someone that's willing to spend a day or two here in the Lansing, MI area (right in the middle of the lower peninsula) so that we can fit up a set to your truck. Whoever can do this for me will get their set of bars at a discounted rate. Please email me at stevest@voyager.net if you are interested. I still need numbers from some 2wd trucks!!

Steve, on my 2wd QC shorty I measured:

1) 60" going to upper shackle bolt, 58 3/8" to lower one.

2) 15" between axle tube and bed underside. I have removed my 1" spacers so springs ride directly on spring pad.

3) N/A there is no bed mount bracket between the spring perch and rear axle

4) The spring perch bracket is butted up against the only bed mount bracket, which is right in front of it.

5) There is about a 5" space on the side of the frame between the front bed mount and rear cab mount. This space spans 6. 5" to 11. 5" from the flat face of the spring perch. About 8. 5" from the spring perch is a nice large hole in the frame, however right behind it is plumbing for fuel and brakes on the driver's side.

Hope this helps. . . I want traction bars!!!

Vaughn

Thanks Vaughn - that helps! Now it looks like it will work on the 2wd LB's (QC, CC, or RC - the short beds I'm still working on). More data on the 2wd's would be helpful still!

Here's the numbers from my 97 CC LB 2WD
1. 60"
2. 16"
3. 6½"
4. 18"
5. There seems to be as much room on my truck as there is on your truck in the pictures in the other thread Steve.
