I have a kinda strange vibration that seems to be coming from the front end. I doesn't seem to vibrate below 55 mph and is intermittent up to about 70mph. 70-72 mph is the worst. Sounds kinda like a grating noise that occurs driving straight and if you turn the wheel to the left slightly. Turn the wheel harder to the left and the noise stops. Turning the wheel to the right makes no noise as well. Does this sound like a wheel bearing? I'm stumped on this noise/vibration and I hope someone can help me figure it out. Thanks.

Sounds like the bearings in the hub assembly are bad. Jack it up and push back and forth on the top and bottom of the tire and see if you can feel it move. If you can feel it move then the bearings in the hub assembly are bad. Hope this helps!

TKremer,

I will try that and see what happens. I also think the vibration may be engine related. Seems to get worse and better at different RPM. Same speed just different engine speed. I feel most of the vibration through the go pedal. Maybe the power steering or brake booster or injection pump? Gotta love problems you just can't figure out.

Tire Scalloping

Just replaced my cheapo PathFinder tires. Front End vibrated between 65 and 72 MPH. Tires were "scalloped". Vibration was pretty severe. The reason they got that way was due to a worn out track bar and steering damper, AND the idiot that was driving with those worn components for to long. Cost Him $600 for new tires. Driving with worn components caused the front end tires to move left and right ever so slightly causing the scalloping.

Also check your axle steering u-joints.

I had one with a little slop - not bad - but replaced it anyhow. When I did a vibration that occured around 72MPH went away.

Thanks for the replys. The tires are in good shape but I will recheck the front u-joints. Hopefully this could be the problem.
