Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Need Help

Bought 98 2500 Quad cab 12 valve when it was about a two yrs old, only had 28k miles on it. Have not had any trouble from it except rebuilt transmission in April 05 with 100k miles on it. My question is that aprrox 3 months ago started hearing ticking noise coming from around the injector pump area. Had injector shop look at it. Pressure was within specs, nothing looked wrong. now it seems that it occurs more often and louder. Can't pinpoint when it does or doesn't do it (like it has a mind of its own). All I know (which isn't much) is it annoying. Fuel filter and values have been done according to my diesel shop here in town. Anybody have any answers or something I should try?Does any one know pricing for overflow (bypass) vavle? Called my local dodge dealer two days ago, talked to parts counter about the valve and he told me he did not know what I was talking about. Had to look it up on computer. Told me I was the first one he has ever talk to that had asked for this part. Also, Price for a lift pump?

Odds are it's the overflow (actually a bypass) valve. If you do a search, you'll find some reading.



You can remove it, streach the spring a bit and see if that helps. Piers used to be a good source for a replacement.

If you crawl under the truck right about where the door is you can hear the noise even better.

At least with mine anyway. IF it is the overflow valve that is.

Not sure why the sound migrates all the way down there but it does on this truck.

thanks everybody, didn;t know where to start. i'll try the overflow valve. is this something a shade tree mech can do.
