Hi guys, the old '93 is sitting waiting on a new injector pump that will easily cost me $1000+.

My dilema is that for around the same price I can put a new 5'ver hitch in my '04. Do I fix the '93 or upgrade the '04? If I upgrade what do I do with a broken '93?

Your asking the first gen forum to choose between an 04 and a 93 ;)

This should be interesting enough... ... ... ... .....

On second thought. I have changed my mind. Fix up the 04 with her new hitch and PM me what you'd have to have for a "dead" 93.

the 93 is evil(just like my two  ). spend time and money on the 04,keep the wife and neighbors happy. i,along with several other members here, would be happy to exorcize that old demon from your yard :D. but really thats a hard decision, i love the old trucks but you gotta do whats best for you

How much do you use the 93? If it's just an occanisonal use truck and the 04 is an everyday truck, then go with the 04. Then fix the 93 when you can afford to. I wouldn't fix something that isn't something you have to depend on much, which it doesn't sound like it is if you have an 04 sitting in the dirveway. Just my . 02.

Definitely get rid of the 93. Now since it's Christmas and all, I'd be willing to come haul it away (so you can get rid of those bad memories) for practically nothing. In fact, since it's Christmas, I'll do it for nothing!!! ;) :-laf

With a bad injection pump (truck not drivable) that's what it's worth (to the next owner)... . practically nothing. I'd like to have it as I have a perfectly good injection pump setting on the shelf.

Sooo, the kapuski pump was the last straw eh??? :-laf

The proverbial last straw that broke the Dodge's back eh??

No need to let that first gen suck all the green out of your wallet.

Ok, no more jokes, but thought this thread could use a little light heartedness among all the begging.....

That said, I might also be able to put a pumpless Cummins to good use... I know of a boat that it would make happy. ;)

From the look of your signature it seems like you have alot of time and money invested in the '93, too much to just "give up" on it. If it were me, I'd fix the '93 without a doubt. If you decide to go the other route I'm sure getting rid of a semi-bombed '93 in need of a pump won't be much of a problem.

You guys are awful!!! Reread the title of the thread: Need honest opinions. :-laf Obviously you could dump it, or let it sit for awhile til time and money arrived, . It doesn't eat much sitting. What would you use the most or first, the 93 or the 5v'er? Which can wait? You've done alot to the old truck. Worth too much to dump. Greenleaf is right, you won't get dirt for an old truck with a dead injection pump. It would still be worth gold if it were mine, as I wouldn't give it away for what folks wanna give ya. You could send your pump to Scheid or other diesel shop and have it rebuilt/exchanged for around $500-650. I'm pretty sure thats what Case500D paid- $650 for a Scheid reman w/exchange. It looked purty too  .

On edit: you can put me down on the list of vultures for I'll take it!!

first gen vultures--hmmmm-- i like it :D . it'd be kinda funny to post this on the 3rd gen forum and see the results. not runnin it aint eatin nothin but insurance so if it has to sit till the funds are there(which also gives you time to search for cheaper solutions) so be it.

Dead Pump

If in fact you really need a pump, there is a shop in Tifton where you can get the pump done for 6 to 7 hundred. If you can do the work of pull and replace, that is about all it will cost. You won't get any serious offers more than about a thousand for the truck like it is. Doesn't matter what you have in it. If it won't run, it won't sell for much. So you just about have to fix the truck if you plan to sell it for anything. Over time, you could part the truck for more than it will bring dead.

As you may surmise from my forum handle, I am partial to the first gen so as to opinions, I would certainly fix the truck and keep it forever.

Being a first genner, I have to get into the act with the others and say, if you decide to sell, I have cash and am close. I have a tow bar that is custom built for the first gen. I have a trailer with a wench. I have a spare pump. I have a 93 with a half million miles that is running fine. I can be there in about a half a day, any day.

Finally, the pumps do die, but sometimes, they are just playing possum. You have to know how to revive them without a rebuild. Do you know any details as to the condition of the pump.

PM if I can be of any further assistance.

What a big ol can of worms I opened :-laf

The 04 is the wifes' truck as she don't care for the ride quality or the 93's butt ugly beauty. But she does know how much I perfer to have the '93. It's hard to part with something that's gone through he** and always brought you back home.

To all the guys that said to keep and fix it, thats what I believe I'll do.

For all you dang burn vultures... . :p :p :p :p :p :p :p

Jstraw, as much as I would like to have your 93 :{ I am glad you decided to keep it. I know I would sure miss mine if I sold it. I am getting afraid to drive it anymore because if I lost it due to some knucklehead driver hitting me I know I could never replace it. I have way more in it than I could sell it for so I guess I will use it for my casket when I go. :D First gens will be with us forever because some of us do not think the soft ride is worth the expense and headaches of the newer trucks with all their electronics and computers and so on. Keep on truckin in that 93 and it will still be with you when the 04 is long gone. :-laf

I resemble that remark

JStraw... ... ... ... ..... good decision to keep!!! I just picked up a 1st gen a month or so ago. In the paperwork I received was the name and address of the original owner. I decided to call him and asked him about the truck. He gave me hours of information and things he went through with that truck.

Needless to say he missed the truck and he actually wanted to know if I was willing to resell it to him!! I declined, but he wanted me to call if it ever came up for sale.

So fix 'er and drive 'er. :-laf
