OK... so I'm again, or actually have not stopped looking for a truck.... the other truck I was looking at I lost the bid on...

So this is a very nice 13, 3500 Longhorn, 2WD truck... Vin # 3C63R2KLXDG596829

I have a couple of questions.... someone with a factory computer please.... 1) has there been any issues with this truck.... that I might need to be aware of before purchase.... 2) are they really making trucks without CD players? 3) Which auto transmission does this truck have.... 4) I assume with the newer trucks... that there is currently only one rear end ratio.... again I'm going to tow my 5er with it...

Again.... thanks for your help... Jim

1) I can't help with.

2) yes the CD player is optional and is in the center console if the truck has one. Pretty easy to add 100s of cds to flash drive and use it.

3) can't help again

4) They made the 13 3500's with 3 different rear end options. 3:42, 3:73, 4:10 Depending on the transmission I can give you feed back on the 3:73 and 4:10 as I have seat time with both of those in a 13 pulling heavy lq horse trailer.

CBari....

do you know if all the Laramie Longhorns have the Aisin Transmission... I just looked at another 13 and it had the 68re.... do you know if the Laramie Longhorn package invokes the CD player... and yes.. I understand I can put what I wish on a SD card... there is an SD card slot in the console....

And YES please share your towing experience with your truck.... I actually have a couple other questions.... this truck now has mag wheels and 18" rubber but would come with the factory wheels.... I don't have a clue what the factory rubber was.... my 05 had 17" rubber... I'm checking now on the Firestone 18" rubber to see if has the load capacity I need.. or if I'll have to change them back....

Thanks... Jim

It has 3.42 and 68 trans, still needs the track bar recall done.It has been into the dealer in Carlsbad they may be able to give you some service history.I only see typical warranty work

bob....

that seems to cover it... thanks... I'm now not sure I want a truck with a 3.42 gear rear axle as a towing vehicle... thanks again

Jim, sorry I didn't get to your questions sooner been off the grid for a few days.

1) As you know now not all Longhorns have the Aisin.
2) No not all longhorns have a CD player mine doesn't (me personally I didn't want one but wasn't a deal breaker for me)
3) Factory tire size for 3500 DRW is the same as your 05. Now if it is SRW there are a few options of factory tire sizes and I am not familiar on them to talk intelligently on them.

My towing experience is as follows. My 03 and my 13 both have 3:73 rear ends I have pulled my LQ trailer with both fully loaded the trailer scales right at 18k. The 03 has a smarty on it so it isn't stock and also has Goerend transmission in it. One of my biggest gripes with it was on the interstate pulling the LQ trailer with cruise set at 72 when you would get to an overpass it would usually kick down to drive. It would also do this when you would hit hills on the interstate. I could take it off cruise and let it pull down a mph or two and keep it from kicking down. When I bought the 13 I really wanted a 4:10 so I didn't have this little annoyance, but when it got down to it and looking horsepower and torque numbers and the aisin trans I thought the 3.73 would be fine in the new trucks. It does the same as the 13. Now both of them don't do it if I am running 80 unless it is a decent or long hill. (no real mountains here just the Ozarks on the interstate 30 and 40 that I travel through often.

Now to the 4:10 I have a friend with a 14 that has the 4:10 and we have taken it a time or two over same roads with my trailer and it doesn't kick down. His fuel mileage isn't any different than mine pulling so If I had it to do over again I would probably go with the 4:10 for my needs.

My thoughts on the 3:42. I have a few friends that run them and they get excellent mileage out of the trucks empty. They also lock out 6th gear when pulling heavy on interstate to stop if from down shifting frequently and they get about the same mileage as me pulling. If I wan't pulling but on the weekends and was daily driving the truck a fair amount during the week I would have to give the 3:42 serious thoughts, but probably not behind the 68trans.

I don't really know if the Aisin is worth the extra money but I have not heard of anyone breaking down with it and to me not having a breakdown is worth lots of money.

Now most of this was just personal opinion but I was out west in the mountains all the time I definitely would want the 4:10 and the aisin trans. Good luck finding what you want don't let the cd player hang you up on any of them it really is as archaic as the 8-track now days. Get someone to show you how to load up that cd collections digitally. Not sure prices on used right now but I know when I bought my 13 it was about this time of the year and I got 17k off of the sticker for a cash sale. Sometime the incentives are too great when you look at the cost of the used vs new.
