Looking for snow for snowmobiling Near MN

Heres why you do it yourself!

My wife did a whoopdedoo on the hwy. then down in the ditch , with the cruise on, a while back. Now, I do not know if it is related or not, but the transmission is out. No reverse, and drive (forward) is weak. Oil is full BTW. But anyway, we would like to find a good used transmission for it, ie. so it doesn't exceed the value of the car.

We would like to know what all years and models would fit . Does anyone here have access to a book that will give us that info?

It is a 1996 Buick Park Ave. 3. 8 litre , 3sp with overdrive. Or for practical purposes , 4 sp auto, I guess.

If you can tell us that info, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks :)

Your transmission should be a 4T60E.

GM used variations of the 4T60 from 1991-1998/99 is nearly every front wheel drive application. Converter stall, drive ratios, etc will be different based on the vehicle model and engine it was used behind, but in general... ... this is what you've got.

A decent transmission shop or a decent dealer service department can tell you more details, but it sounds like a forward & reverse servo problem, or perhaps the reverse sun shell as failed.

Hope this helps,

Dan-

Thanks Dan.

I assume then, that almost any GM car of equal size( 4dr sedan) should have a transmission that will work. That is in the year models that you have listed. I would think then, that it shouldn't be to difficult to find one economically priced. :)

Oh, also , the servo problems you suggested , are they a spendy fix ? Maybe I won't need to find a different transmission if those possibilities you mentioned are simple fixes?

Not sure on prices, sorry.

Pretty much any 4T60E will work. Might not be 100% correct, but should work.

I called a trans. shop today. $1800 to fix the one we have. That is more tan half of what we paid for the car. I'll be looking for a used one for sure. Thanks for the help Dan.
