Every place you look they have parts for 94 and newer trucks but can anybody tell me the best place to go to get high performance parts for 1st Gen trucks . Parts like the old smokey fuel pin and bigger injectors etc.

I looked around for a while, and then found Piers Diesel Research(PDR) at www.piersdiesel.com The Old Smokey pin was originated in that area from a fello TDR member, Old Smokey. They have a pretty good line of first gen parts. Better then most. They have been bombing first gens for a while too. I have not been shopping around, so I don't know if Haisly or Shieds has anything now or not.

Piers Diesel Research is a great place to buy your parts. They also have the knowledge to help you build your truck. They sell all the parts in my signature and I would buy from them again.

I agree with the comments about Piers...

But also lots of places just don't advertise first gen stuff any more.

Sometimes you have to ask.

BOMBs away!!

IMHO if a company has stuff for first gens and doesn't advertise they either don't really want that business or they aren't very knowledgable in the first gens. I feel real uneasy when I have to call a place and ask if the they have a part for a first gen. I know there is a differnce between the first and second gens, but they say "Yeah we have something that should work".

Much like going to a swap meet and asking if a part fits on a certain car, and the Dude says"Yeah it'll fit" just so he sells it.

I never accept the yea it'll fit approach either.

I probably should've been more specific.

Last year when I wanted to do a 4 inch exhaust, I priced some internet companies, and then e-mailed Janetty who is local to me, and who didn't advertise a 4 inch first gen system.

After a couple of back and forths to nail down what I wanted, I ordered from Janetty... partially to save shipping from the west coast on that heavy package, and partially to keep some of my business local... . I never know when I may need some local help, so I like to keep them in business.

That's just one example. . I don't think it's always a case that a company only advertises what they know... . space is limited and they target a certain market with that space.

Just about all the diesel and turbo shops have at least one guy that is a die hard first gen fanatic. Sometimes you just have to ask to find the right person.

Piers Diesel has at least one relic that is a gold mine of info. ;)

Your best source of info for parts and configurations is right here on the TDR in first gen land. You will nor find a wider variety or experience on most shops. Just ask away and you will get all the info and opinions you need to ask the right questions.

Happy BOMBing. :)

Not to bash Banks, but for the cost of their system- even just the exhaust housing and 3. 5" exhaust; keep your stock intercooler- you can make nearly double the power and torque if you go to PDR, Formula1, or Dynamite Diesel (Old Smoky's place of employ). You still have stock injectors and an H1C turbo with a Banks set up. I have a PDR HX35 that I got used, home made 4" exhaust system, and I splurged on a set of EDM's, and still dont have a grand in it. I'll run it against any Banks'ed 1st Gen, towing, drag, whatever.

If you want power and can live with smoke when mashing the pedal, I'd say a set of PODs would be fine for you. If you want to keep smoke down, Bully Dog's 50hp, PDR's Bosch 190s, or some custom EDMs (though they are pricey, they do smoke less and add power) might work better. For turbos, you have PDR's HX35, several options from High Tech Turbo, and lots of others. Exhaust is the same- there are several options out there.

There are a lot more 1st Gen options than there were 5 years ago when I bought my first CTD Ram- 16cm housing and PW injectors were about it- 280RWHP was a SOMETHING. Then came the HX35/40 hybrids, POD injectors, DD had extrude honed injectors for a while, 4" pipes, cams, etc, etc. 350RWHP is attainable for reasonable money now.

"... ... Piers Diesel has at least one relic that is a gold mine of info..... "

Crap... . my cover is blown... ;)... I'm gonna keep my one good eye on you for that ... . ;):D

pb.

I agree with Daniel about Banks... they were the leaders when these truck first came out... . but there is more knowledge here now thanks to a few of those relics... . ;)

I still have the price list and brochure from Banks from when I first got my truck... . I'm much better off with the mods I learned thru this forum at about half the price.

Anywhere you go you'll have to pay for the R&D. Some places seem to want to help you while others just want your $$$$$$$$

I have phoned several vendoers in the past. It all comes down to what has been stated. The parts guys will say "I have something that should fit" ... ... ... ... . ah, ok then... ... ... ... ... ... . DUH!!!!! I guess I was born last night too!!!!!

I guess Dodge didn't begin making diesel trucks till '94 @#%^(%#%##$

Just call Piers. Nuff said :)
