need info on Jayco Eagle line

Would like any information good or bad on the Jayco Eagle campers. I am looking at a 2001 293RKS that I can trade for a couple of thousand to boot. The only reason I am considering tradeing in mine is that the eagle has a bedroom slide and mine does not.

We've not owned an Eagle, but we've owned a 1978 Jayco Cardinal pop-up and two Jayco Designer 5th wheels, a 1996 3030RKSS and a 2000 XL 3610RLTS. All have been good, solid units with minimal problems (the typical RV "buyout" stuff), even the Cardinal that we sold when it was 18 years old.



One thing you'll probably hear over and over about Jayco is that they will go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction. My experience is that the middle-priced brands with the most satisfied customer bases tend to be (not in any particular order) Sunnybrook/Mobile Scout, Nash/Arctic Fox and Jayco.

Very happy with ours! Note signature... I'd like to find a new one as the 293RKS isn't being built anymore. Seems people want the rear living. We like the rear kitchen. Ours has been trouble free. I'll e-mail you a pic of it on the truck if you're interested.

If you could e-mail me the pictures it would be great, always like to see someones setup, maybe even pickup a tip or two by viewing other peoples setup. If you can, post them here for everyone to view. I hope this camper pans out, I have not seen it yet (except for pictures on the web) but am going to take a trip next weekend to see if it is what the wife and I want. I feel a couple thousand to boot is a good deal to gain a little more space and an extra slide. Better trade-in value in the future.



Anyone else have a positive or negative comment, things to look out for.

We have owned a Jayco Eagle 312 trailer and now have a Jayco Designer XL 3530 5th wheel. Both have been towed all over the country with thousands of miles on them and were pretty much trouble free. Only big problem we have had was with the converter in the 5th wheel which i replaced last fall. We have been very satisfied with Jayco.

We've been very happy with our 2000 Jayco 5er (269RD). We've towed it over 20 kmiles with no big problems, including trips to Alaska and Newfoundland.



We did put shock absorbers on it to improve its towing characteristics (the Designer line comes with them, the Eagle does not). That helped quite a bit.



I can't speak to slides, since this model doesn't have any. We chose this so we'd have easier towing and we don't need much room.

I havent owned one, but I looked at a few before purchasing the current TT.

Everyone I spoke to had good things to say about Jayco.

I was thinking of buying a Jayco Eagle about 3 years back. It was a 30 or 32' center bath. If memory serves me they were asking 10K for it and it was only 2 years old with very light use.

I finally got around to creating a photo album. Click on the link under my avatarless to go there. I loaded some pics of previous trucks too. I like the straight pin on the 293RKS. I slipped a pic of the kitchen in there too. My Mavica FD92 doesn't have a wide enough angle lens to take good pics inside a room. I even loaded the pics of the black widow that set up home in my frame. Hopefully not a bad first album for an amateur!

We have had two Jayco Eagle fifth wheels, a 247SL and now a 325BHS. For the money I do not think you can get any better.

What do you guys think of $3,000 difference to gain a bedroom slide and a little more space. We are trading a 2001 model for a 2001 model. I am not too keen on spending money when we already have a unit that has never given us any problems, the wife is not either, she says keep what we have. Oh well it doesn't cost anything to go and see if it is a deal I can live without or not.



If everything goes as scheduled we will be going down this weekend to check it out.

Mine does not have a bed room slide, and I would not trade it in for one that does (if your trading in only for the slide out option)... sure you get the extra storage space... ...



One way to look at it is another slide is just one more thing that can leak and have problems.

I wouldn't trade just for a bedroom slide. Ours works fine and doesn't leak. The mechanism for the bedroom slide is all inside and very simple. Not much to go wrong. Just the same, I'd just as soon not have a bedroom slide. I kinda like having my gourd up in the front and not under a window when it's cold outside. That and I like to be able to raise up and look into the living/kitchen area. My wife likes it for the mirror door closet across the front and dresser down the curbside.

If you go look at it, just for shts and giggles, simply lift up on the foot of the bed and there's the slide mechanism in all it's glory! There ain't much to it.

I was also thinking maybe better trade-in value or resale value a few years down the road, also a well known brand name (Jayco-vs-Tahoe of california) around these parts compared to mine. I think we are going to go look at it but we have pretty much decided not to trade. Our camper is a very well built unit and for the places we go we do not need that fancy of a camper. Maybe when we retire. Oh well it doesn't hurt to go look and see.

Absolutley Steve, there is very little to go wrong with a slider in the bedroom. My point was simply that there is just one more thing that you might have a problem with. If you need the extra storage (closet space) they can be great. But if you are not a full timer and can get by with only 4 feet of closet rod (as apposed to 8) why trade just so you can sleep side ways... ... .

Well we didn't even go look at the camper this weekend. Decided the camper we have is probably worth about the same as the one we were thinking about. Besides now I have a few more bucks to spend on b. o. m. b. 's or dressing up the truck or paying off bills.
