Need info on Rancho Shocks

I bought a set of Rancho RS9000 shocks off ebay

(see auction # 170041882014 )

Are these shocks supposed to be gas charged? My understanding is that they are. My experiance with a gas charged shock is that there is a positive pressure inside the shock so that when compressed, the shock extends back out to it's full lengh due to the gas pressure inside the shock. When the shocks arrived today, they don't rebound out to their full lengh as I expected. It is like there is no gas pressure inside the shock. The dampening knob works: In one direction there is considerable dampening and in the other direction the dampening is much less.

Does it sound like these shocks have lost their gas charge?

They never had gas. I have them on rear only. Adjustable shocks are good for rear(where loads change), but for front I'd prefer a gas shock.

Mine became looser after a few miles, and I started at about #3, and now I run on 7 or 8. (about 40K on them)

I have never seen a gas charged Rancho shock. I used to work in a Jeep shop and to me it sounds like that shock is operating as it should. Most 4x4/offroad shocks are not gas charged.

I have them on my truck. Not gas charged. I've been happy with them for about 30K miles.

I have the 5000's on my 2WD 2500 and they are gas charged.

They are gas charged, but at VERY low pressure where the "charge" doesn't do much. A lot of the time it's just and expansive foam bladder inside the outer chamber. To get the benefits of a true gas charged shock, that gas must be at 150psi of more...

I found for my use the 9000's did not last too long before they started going down hill. I now have 3' Kings all the way around thanks to Carli Suspesion,and am absolutly lovin the way they work. With the heavy weight of these trucks go big,you will be much happier in the long run.
