Need information on towing car trailer

When towing my enclose car trailer with car in the trailer should I tow in tow gear on the end of shift lever or will it hurt to just be in normal drive?Will it hurt the transmission to be in just drive when towing on level ground.

I tow in tow with OD off when I have a trailer. The only time I do put it back in to standard drive (with the OD on) is on flat interstate when I am up to speed.

The question will be anwered by the truck. If load, wind, hills, or road speed cause the tranmission to "hunt" ie repeatedly shift back and forth from OD to a lower gear use the button in the end of the shifter to select "Tow/Haul" mode.

You would receive better information if you would tell the membership what year and how your truck is equipped. We don't know if you are driving an early 12 valve or a 2012 ISB6. 7 with six speed automatic.

It a 2006 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive short bed

Sorry about that. I just drove the truck275 miles mostly flat road did leave it in tow haugh this time. Fuel mileage was down from 14 to 12 in tow.
