My truck is 1998, 24 valve with 173,000 miles. Yesterday while towing, the parking brake warning light and the abs warning light came on: the speedometer quit working below 30 miles per hour. I suspect some kind of sensor. Please advise.

Sensor on the rear axle. There's a tone ring in the pumkin and it picks up off that. Check the wiring and plug, may be something simple as that.

Like Nate said... probably that diff sensor, if not, check your fuse box.

I checked the fuses just to be sure, but it was the sensor. Sure is a different world than when my dad and I worked on our trucks in the 50s. Thanks for the help.

No problem. I had the same exact problem when the wiring got chaffed though.
