Hi guys... with all the transmission pans sold recent hope you can help.

Bought mine a few years ago, before the double deep was out. The spec then called out for 30ft/lbs for tightening down the drain plug. After one year... it was tough getting off.

After I did my service a little over a year ago I noticed on Mag-hytec's site that they changed the torqu spec. . emailed them, they explained why. good enough...

Figuring next time I'll have a problem... got a new one from GENO's (thanks, they slipped me a new on in a order) figuring I'll have a problem...

Yup...

Now I'm out in the driveway. . couldnt get the plug out, stripped the freeken plug trying to get it out... finally got it out with an easy out. (easy out stuck in plug now, cant win)

PROBLEM, MAYBE??

the "new" plug is twice the length of the old plug.

A pix worth more words than I can come up with:

(think you can tell the old one, the one with the easy out stuck in it):

#ad

I've got to get back underneath to see if I can tell if it will hit anything.

Maybe I now have the plug for the DD pan?

Will I have a problem with the longer plug? interference problems?

or are all the new plugs like the one on the left?

If you bought a NON Double Deep pan recently, which one does your's look like?

Thanks for the input.

Bob

I just installed a Mag-Hytec 727D pan last month. It had the longer plug. I didn't have any problems with clearance on my 97 with a 47RE. Hope this helps.

I have the original pan. I had a heck of a time getting my plug out last time. Almost stripped the hex out of it. I have the short one. I will definitely need to get another one before I change my fluid again.

Thanks for the input. I did do a lot of double checking and couldnt find anything the plug would hit. It seems the plug only comes up a tad bit higher than the fins that are on the bottom of the pan.

As I was torquing down the pan bolts I seemed to remember a thread (searched, but couldnt find it) or maybe an article that talked about the plug being changed to a longer one to facility easy of lining it up when reinstalling it so as not to cross thread it.

I would like to see them change it to use a larger hex key , that would probably help the striping out of the hex hole.

I played with the torque and 30 in/lbs seems enough. even a that light of a torque, it still "snaps" when you loosen it.

emailed maghytec.... got a reply today

got my reply from Maghytec today...

So fyi:

"Hi Bob,

_ That is the newest plugs we make. Some guys were having a hard time getting the threads started. So we extended it 1/2 inch to allow for a pilot starter. This way any one will be able to reinstall the plug with no difficulty.

___ Jerry @ Mag-hytec. "
