I have a 98 12 valve white a 5 speed 4/10 gears and 36in tires with a USgear over and under Has anyone had trouble with it not shifting right?? They know longer are in business you cant buy the little black box that changes the gears I have come up with a way of fixing it if anyone is interested? I would like to right an article in the tdr on it its not real hard to do but does take some time and a little ingenuity Let me know their has to be more than me with this problem I have 98 qud 3/4 4by4 6in lift electric locks 4 wheel disc brakes amp electric steeps bushwhacker extreme flares rancho 9000 shocks dvd/gps/back up camera custom leather int gray with purple inserts, oh the truck is pervo purple by house of koolers blue tooth in stereo and pushes about 450+ hp with all the gages

us gear shifting problems

hi, i have one in my 97 12 valve 3500 4wd unit has always been hard to shift. i have to unload the drivetrain by leting up on the throttle and timing it just right, and even then half the time it wont go. so i just leave it in double overdrive most of the time. mine is a automatic and it seems like it keeps so much preload on the us gear it just does not want to shift. i also use synthetic mobile 1 oil , but it doesn't make any difference. any ideas? still all in all it is probably the best mod i have done. you just can't beat having that extra overdrive on trips.

us gear overdrive

You need to get a 6 way switch that is spring loaded to the center your overdrive is activatived by an 12v motor in the overdrive and works on reverse polarity, which means the motor will run foreword or back by reversing the neg and pos wires the trouble is that will short out the system, sooo I used a diode on th 4 wires that go down to the overdrive you need 4 diode you can get them at radio shack. You need to put one on each wire pos and neg so the voltage will not feed back to the other side because you need to connect the to sides of the swich together so the pos and the neg are wired together, and the diode keeps it from feedback and shorting out and then all you do is hit the swich up or down with your finger and when you let of it will go back to the neutral posistion and you will be in over or under depending on whichway you hit the swich. It sounds sort of hard but really isn't. I could draw a diagram if you need. You bypass the hole rest of the overdrive wiring system. I coud fax you a dieagram if you need, let me know

boy, i think that would be really helpful if you could find a way to post a wireing diagram and maybe a part # on the diodes and switches i don't have a fax machine maybe you could draw it out and take a close up digital picture or something. going forward i know this is going to become an issue for those of us that have these and it sounds like you have figured out the answer! thanks for any help you can supply!

thanks Cecil, a diagram yould be great. And no us gear did not go out of business, but they were bought out by a bigger company for their ring and pinion production and they saw no future in the dual range. kind of a shame they really are great units. :)

Im not sure but I know they had a bulluet prff gearbox Im pushing 4to450hp and have not been kind to the drive trian and 475000 and not any problems except this
