I am trying to gather some inputs on lift pump requirements as I am seeing if Paragon can make me a pump to replace the Carter factory pump. I need a little help with their questions below. This is what I requested and their response please add additional info.

Request:

The duty cycle for this style pump would be continuous duty and no maintenance. Right now I am looking at finding a replacement pump to the Carter/Federal Mogul manufactured pump that is currently on the Dodge Cummins trucks. The Carter is a low pressure/high volume pump, 15-18 psi at 100 gph, but it has longevity issues.

The volume is needed to cool the injection pump and feed the injectors without cavitation. The current style is a 12 VDC continuous duty and pushes 14-15 psi after the fuel filter and has to draw fuel from the tank and push it to the injection pump. The draw is about 10 ft and the push is about 4 ft and a return line flows excess fuel back to the tank.

What style pump do you use? Vane type or other? The pump has to be able to draw and push. I am looking for this pump to be maintenance free, take a 12 VDC input, be able to hooked up to a 3/8" fuel line, have 16-18 psi at the output of the pump, have a fast recovery rate, I am looking for something to

last 100,000 mi in a Diesel truck.

Their Response:

Thank you very much for communications as you have found the right supplier in Paragon.

Paragon is well pleased to provide you the proper solution to your

pumping needs, and we are CERTAIN that we can provide that which you ask for.

Our pumps are primarily positive displacement spur gear pumps of

hardened steel construction. We have offered vane style pumps, and other pumping alternatives tailored to meet our customers' specific needs.

In the process of considering the best approach to giving you what you want we need to know the following at this time:

- Volume

- Mounting/envelope size

- Purchase Specification

- Environmental conditions

- Type of qualification testing required

- Delivery requirements

Your response to the above would be greatly appreciated, and we hope to speak with you soon.

Sorry I can't be of help but, I can't wait to see the outcome of this one. Could it be a dream??? Could someone actually rescue us from the dreaded LP problem with out adding pusher pumps or relocating closer to the tank. Pinch me it must be a dream.

Please do keep us informed - can't wait... ... . Oo.

Joe,

Will do I just need to make sure I request the right parameters. I am including a picture of the pump and the Carter spec's. I think I will offer them to buy a Cummins pump and I will reimburse them for the cost so they can get all the dimensions of the pump from a actual pump. I need to try to find a scamtic of the system to send as well.

Need the guys opinions of what this pump needs to produce.

Hate to be a wet blanket but from his questions it seems to me he is talking about a large run of these pumps for a production type facility.

I may be wrong?

Here are some specs of the stock Carter pump:

Volume

90 GPH …… free flow

60 GPH …… @ 8 psi

25 GPH …… @ 14 psi

No pump damage when deadheaded

12mm X 1. 5mm port threads

Maximum current draw 6 Amps @ 13. 8 volts

I have been down this road with another company with no good results. If the company you are working with looks promising, ask about upping the volume to 200 GPH free flow for us bombers.

15w40,

Thanks for the info. I will add this to my reply but probably bumped up abit.

CFAR,

That is my question as well. I would like to see if they can produce a pump that we can order from them as/if we want one with out a quota or minimum order. I just want a viable replacement at a cost reasonable to the stock pump. I don't want to be in the retail business. Maybe a TDR vendor would like to sell them but I would cross that road when I come to it.

I'll let you know of my results as they happen.
