Need a quick cheap fix to get my EGT's down with out loosing power . Have a Isspro POST EGT pyro and just coming on to the freeway ramp ,empty ,boost not over 5psi and throtle just enough to get up to speed,my egt's

get to 750 f. + Out side temps 6o f. Will be towing my 32' TT in the mountians next weekend 7,500# and am concerened about those Numbers. Around 15. 5 Pump timing,BHAF,230 Bosch Inj,230 HP plate move forward,DTT 89% TC,VB Smart controller,3000Gskand afc kit.

You could order a new muffler, like a Walker 3" (straight through), and that would help some, and would only cost around $50 too. Do you still have your cat? Muffler/no cat combo should get you a solid 150* drop at least.

And remember that you will need to make more boost, at a higher rpm if you want to keep the egts down.

Yes I still have factory cat ,muffler, and exhaust system. Does anyone make a "Test Pipe" to replace my cat, but not the muffler?

Thanks for responing!

It is not a "test pipe" you want, but the North of the border pipe piece used on Canadian and non Cat trucks. I am considering doing this on mine. The part # is P/N 52019170-AB -. Should be in the neighborhood of $50 or so. As for worrying about temps while towing... ... ... I see similar temps on my 96, I have a pre and post ISSPRO guages and while towing on fairly level interstate driving saw about 900 pre, 650 post. Pulling grades saw 1200 pre, 900 post. Pretty hot and had to take my foot out of it, But no problems.

They are called test pipes in fact the first ones said "For testing catalytic converter efficiency only, not for permanent installation" right on the side. I forgot to take mine off about 5 years ago.

Ultimate fix: PDR cam, ported head & PDR HX-40.

Cheap and easy fix: slide your plate back.

(This is what Piers suggested I do. )

Options: Install a second EGT probe pre turbo and switch between them for better accuracy. Better yet, instead of the switch, install a turbo temp monitor connected to the post turbo probe. That automatically does your cool down.

First one came from the dealer and was a bear to get the parts guy to look up, he was just lazy and kept insisting it didn't exist. With the # Kev provided you shouldn't have that problem. I paid around $70. I also bought two from the tdr classifieds, $25 for a used one and $40 for brand new. Folks get rid of them when going for a straight pipe.

What I've done even more often is just buy the pipe, a reducer, and three clamps from Napa, about $25. Only difference from the factory pipe is one more clamp but you can come out ahead if you don't have a oxy/acetylene torch to remove the cat and have to saw. If you saw you lose about 6" of pipe that the test tube doesn't give you unless you pull everything behind the cat forward.
