Yes I know it's tight just seeing how close it is.We used to RV with a fellow that bought a 98 quad cab short box. He went three years without using his slider on the hitch and then punched out the rear window twice in a week. Maybe consider something like a PullRite or Reese Sidewinder. I don't know much about either just seen the ads.

TFucili that would be great. One thought I think the gooseneck is a couple inches forward of the axle .Very sketchy measurement here, wthout squares, levels or plumb-lines. I layed a folding ruler across my tonneau at approx axle center, and layed a second perpendicular to the cab just below the glass, at the center. They crossed at approx 37". Due to the curve of the rear of the cab, and the vertical taper, this is worst case dimension. I will have my gooseneck hooked up on Thursday to haul my SxS. I can get you a dimension to any point you want, if that helps.
Let me know what point(s) you want to measure to.TFucili that would be great. One thought I think the gooseneck is a couple inches forward of the axle .
Thanks Jim yes I see aot of variations in wheelbase and cabs. I have a long bed now. Still trying to figure it all outP-bar; if you have not purchased a new pick-up truck yet you may want to check the wheelbase on the Crew Cab Short bed truck compared to your current truck. They maybe the same or very close to each other. I have a 2008 Dodge Mega Cab Short Bed truck and the wheel base is the same as a Quad Cab Long Bed truck . In 2008, all they offered was a Regular Cab and a Quad Cab as far as a long bed truck. The Regular Cab had a shorter wheel base than the Dodge Mega Cab truck. The wheel base for the Quad Cab and Mega Cab is 160.5" the over all length for the two trucks is only 1.8" different between them.
Thanks JR. Not doing mega cab just standard crew. Still undecided long or short. I have long now.I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure the gen 3 mega cab has less room pin to cab than the gen 4 crew cab. I use a B&W RVB 3400 companion (manual slider, only uses the gooseneck hole so no need to drill additional holes) We tend to camp off the beaten path a little more, state parks and such where the camp sites tend to be less "groomed" for larger rigs.
I'm pretty sure an extended pin box can be had for most any model 5er at a relatively economical price. FYI.
