Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) need more hp

hey guys, I am looking at putting more hp. I will be making a trip to ark. & missouri. maybe to minn. pulling a 9,000# camper this summer. last summer we hit the east coast, virginia,w virginia,kentucky,& tenn. I did hit some good hills and was down to 2nd. gear at times, trans is stock,just need that extra muscle. truck does good down south, what you guys are running, also the turbo, the waste gate open at 18-19 psi. on turbo. do i need to get something to keep it closed. more fuel more air right. thanks r crosby

I would suggest a smarty for the adjustablity or an Edge EZ. I feel that both are great products. Also a HD torque convertor and valve body will do wonders in the power that is already there. As far as the turbo goes I would do a search on here for J-hooks since you have an auto with the nonabjustable wastegate, you can either buy a kit for that or just make your own that is what I did. Look at the Edge EZ, this is a great unit that performs well especially towing.

I've used the EZ for a few years and it has never given me any troubles. I pull a 20' gooseneck stock trailer and a 24' flatbed expandable (rated at 24,000lbs) hauling 10 to 16 5X6 round bales, equipment ect. I am planning to up grade my injectors and clutch to go to the edge comp. With the 4" exhaust and a after market (not going to get into brands) air filter, you will have more than enough power to pull anything you need.

thanks guys for some info. i am not sure which one i will go with, about superchip. also do i have to put the j-hook on turbo to get more air, if i get more boost psi,will i get a code for over boost are these programmers will cover this. thanks rcrosby

It only takes about 2 mins and you will find a level that is good all around.

I just leave Smarty on SW2 & adjust my comp when I wanna play... . really don't need any more than that.

Yeah. I wish I could try a Smarty out before I spent the money to buy one. Just to see the results vs. the BDDL. I've read all the threads but I'd like to see for myself.

How are the EGT's compared to that of BDDL? Higher? Lower? The same?
