I need more power to tow my GCVW of 22,000 lbs. while keeping the EGT's within limits. From research, it looks like adding a chip will increase the EGT's too high.

Doing transmission upgrades such as TC, VB and input shaft will provide for the additional power but why spend the money if I can't control the EGT's?

What is the cheapest way to get the additional power (say 80 hp) while keeping the EGT's within limit?

Thanks

For your stated goal, I would do the following: Get a set of Don M's EDM injectors (not available just now, but soon at F1 Diesel), get a good intake system like AFE or Scotty's, and put on a straight through free flowing muffler like Donaldson or Nelson (others available also). An ATS exhaust manifold would also help on the EGTs. Go with the 60HP injectors which Don says provides better fuel economy and helps EGTs. The intake and exhaust will both help provide the added HP to get you to your stated goal and shouldn't mess with your warranty. Pulling that heavy then you need the TC/VB and that will also keep the heat down. If $ isn't a major problem then I'm a believer in the SRT-10 hood as it will provide lower abient air temp for the engine compartment and keep things cooler. Looks great also. Some folks have also lost their cat and that helps. You can go on with an Aeroturbine, where the cat used to reside and it looks like a performance cat. That would probably work for you anywhere else than CA. I probably helped you spend around $5k. Don't send your wife to straighten me out on this,... ok? That my $. 02.

I'm no expert, but I was under the impression that without a boost fooler, any airflow improvements (exhaust, AFE, ATS Manifold, etc) would simply result in the computer reducing fueling when it senses an overboost. I remember reading something that Joe D. wrote to that effect a while back. If this is the case you would need some sort of box just for the boost fooling.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. With my 555 6spd running at 18,000 GCWR, I am relatively satisfied bone stock (for now anyway), but am considering some mods in the future and anything that couldn't be utilized at full load towing uphill would be a waste of time for me so the EGT issue is definitely of interest.

From what I've read, the Bully Dog downloader adds about the amount of power you are looking for while actually reducing EGTs. You might also consider doing the "Home Depot" $5 airbox mod and add a free flowing muffler like the Nelson 86131M.

100 Proof

The only way to get more power with less heat is to add more air with the extra fuel. The stock turbo is hardly satisfactory for anything above a stock truck.

get a intake free up exhaust if you do go with injectors you should have some kind of timing box to increase efficiency and a larger turbo is not a bad idea just try to keep boost under 45lbs head gasket. 100 proof is right bullydogs products do help with egt's.
